I recently started playing, with Diamond, and chose Chimchar.
I promptly caught a Shinx, who I named Zappy, and used literally no other Pokémon ever.

Charmander and Squirtle, since I started red and blue at the same time, picked Charmander on red and Squirtle on blue, and I was about 5 years old.

Squirtle from blue. Never cared for Charizard. When I did get a Charmander I never let him get past Charmeleon.

You can't beat Typhlosion ... ever.
It's a bear. On fire. Even Charizard can't top that, dragons are kind of common. But BEARS WITH FIRE MANES?

(Typhlosion has always looked like a bear to me, okay? I don't remember exactly what it was based on, but to me, it's a fire bear.)
I'm liking the idea of a fire bear.

I started with Squirtle in Red. Since then, I've tended to not just gravitate to the water starters, but also have a weird liking for water types in general. (I still keep a balanced team, though. A party made entirely of water types would just be asking for trouble.)

I picked Bulbasaur in the Red version. Soooo cooool...

That was back when I was still learning words... and all of my pokemon had the best nicknames ever, ranging from 'momisdum' to 'aaaaaaaaab' to random gibberish. Aaaaah... I was such a cultured individual back then.

Its hard to believe its been so long since I last played it. Oh well... I'll wait til the next game comes out to jump on the wagon again. Not Black and White. The next one. It'll probably be Cocaine and Heroine or something.

Named their games after lots of colors... made like... every type of pokemon imaginable... from the God-like Arceus to the computer-generated Porygon.

They've done everything else... shesh. Drugs is next.

Man I feel old...first game was original Pokemon Red for my brick of a Gameboy...thats right people, I had one of the first Gameboys that was the size of a Netbook and the 4 AA batteries kept the black and white screen going for about an hour without sound...if I was lucky.

Probably not that bad, I don`t remember, too busy fapping to Pokemon haha.

I chose Charmander, all of my friends chose Bulbasaur since he was the easiest to go through the game with, one of them chose Blastoise, I was always fond of the fire starters, and to this day I only chose them for my games.

Yea...I still play...sometimes, mostly for vacations and stuff.

Squirtle in red.

Then I realized that I wanted a charmander too, so I borrowed my friends red version and basically stole him charmander. If I remember correctly, he wasn't too far in so he didn't really care that much.

First time ever trying Pokemon, it was Charmander on the Blue version, because I figured fire would be awesome. It wasn't my copy of the game though, so I couldn't save it or anything.

When I later got the game for myself, and played for real, it was the Yellow version, so I had no choice but to start with Pikachu.

My Cindaquill was Bob. How about them apples.
At least yours is an actual name.

I really don't know what I was thinking when I named that Bulbasaur.
It's pretty obvious what you were thinking. You were thinking this is going to be the Coolest pokemon ever.

I assumed so. But at this current stage in my many years of pokemon playing, I have found that Bulbasaur is not as cool as I thought it would be.
