DA2, duh.

No but seriously, Skyrim. Sure, it's hard to peg it as Game of the Year this far out but I have faith.

Personally, I'd hope for W40k: Space Marine.

As for a somewhat realistic guess, I'd probably go with Batman: Arkham City.
Skyrim might also have a chance.

Portal 2 on polish and having the creators pouring their damn hearts into the game.
Skyrim will come as a close second for just blowing people away with its world.

I'm also going to place Dead Island as a dark horse (if it truly releases this year.)

I'm going to say Minecraft. It's just on a whole different level. all the other games I'm seeing on this list is just more of the same of something we've seen before. Minecraft offers something fundamentally different & revolutionary

Deus Ex won't be game of the year because the damn PC version is developed by an outside firm.
Actually, the response to the leaked press-preview has been quite good, so I doubt it will be a problem.

As far as I know, the preview contains an early but fully functional one third of the game, and should be between ten and twelve hours long, which bodes well for the length.

Looking at YouTube vids and reading comments on various sites, it's shaping up to be the best sequel to any game in ten years.

Witcher 2. I doubt Skyrim will be that good. At best, it'll suck slightly less than Oblivion.

Not Modern Warfare 3.

There are reasons, but I don't really feel like going into them here. Maybe when a MW3 specific thread comes up I'll go post my thoughts.

Beyond that, I'm waiting to play Skyrim and Battlefield 3 before I make my final decision, but right now Portal 2 has lived up to the hype and deserves mention as a serious front-runner. However, if Bethesda has learned from Oblivion, and has kept the things that worked brought in a better story, plus all the other things they have already shown they've changed, I think Skyrim is the game to beat.

Also, I'm putting in a dark horse mention for the PC VERSION of The Witcher 2. I don't really have a lot of confidence in their Xbox 360 port, which isn't out yet. It's a very deep game, but does have some minus points on it. At the very least there won;t be a better PC game this year.

This is just a thread to see what people will think the game of the year will be.

Sorry i forgot some games.
You left off SO many good games yet made sure to make room for battle field AND modern warfare...

Seriously?
I'm sorry i was in a hurry so i forgot some good games but my choice would be Skyrim.

Different how?
It just takes old concepts and puts them together, quite well i've heard. But don't make stuff up to big up your game. Good job you like it. Well done you have an opinion.]

It might be worthy for GOTY (or at least some special upstart/indie award for how far they have managed to come on their own back. But not for the reasons you listed.
I have never seen a game that offers players amount of creative freedom that minecraft. I don't know what you mean by old concepts, but i haven't see a game allows anyone to build a functioning computer inside the gameverse from the ground up.
