Very little interest tbh.If I wanted to use Steam then I'd just upgrade my PC.The only thing that intrigues me slightly is how much they're going to cost in relation to the new consoles

Other than possibly tangible and interesting opportunity to apply Linux classes, not much. I already got this rig couple weeks back, so I expect it to take at least five years for a replacement.

None of the above... I'm building my own steam box to my own specs:

I already have a GPU and 500W PSU that I am going to use.

Well new opportunities and options, I don't intend to own one but them putting the drive behind Linux gaming, dedicated gaming OS systems, new controller options, and more independent streaming options is all good news to me.
We will see how it all turns out but it never hurts to have more competition.

Not interested in the Steam Box or SteamOS at all. It seems this machine is meant for console gamers who want a more streamlined PC gaming experience.

I have a decent enough PC to fit all the needs I care about be it games, music or movies.

I'm mostly interested in the controller and will likely check out the OS on my existing machine. I'll wait on more info (specs, prices) before deciding to commit any more. Can't say right now that I'm pining to game on the couch and I'm quite comfy sitting in my chair at my desk.

Opinion is very much split between the "we'll see" and "flat-out NO" camps. Not sure where these supposed Valve fanboys are.

Not really interested.
While I like Steam as a service I tend to only use it for games I'm only partially interested in or in PC exclusives.

As a console collector I'll probably pick one up on the cheap in a few year and add it to my display case, but I don't really see myself getting any real use from it.

I'll probably install SteamOS on my PC, which is getting dust since I bought a laptop for working. It has very good specs, since I've built it to work with video/hi-res image editing. The only reason I've abandoned it is that I'm constantly traveling between two cities and it's freaking huge and heavy. I live in Brazil, so the new consoles prices are ridiculous, they're not an option... so I'll probably fit the PC somewhere in the living room and use it as a next-gen console. With SteamOS, I hope I won't need to use a keyboard and mouse on the living room just to start a game... this is what prevents me of doing this setup today.

Yeah, I'll probably end up dual booting or VMing SteamOS on my main rig to see how it is.

As for 'couch gaming'... not interested, especially as my computer chair (a car seat welded to an office chair frame) is the most comfortable seat in my flat. Add in old hand injuries make extended controller use painful for me and that I'd have to buy a TV and it all get's a solid 'fuck that for effort' from me.

Flat out not interested so I chose the "I don't need this" option because the Steam machines in general really don't interest me at all.

I'm more happy gaming on consoles, handhelds and my PC so that's me pretty much covered.

If they are better and cheaper then upgrading my PC. However I want to be able to apply my own mods. If I can't play Morrowind with the gigantic overhaul I currently have I will consider it a downgrade.

Wireless keyboard/mouse. Small price to pay to move the computer to a bigger screen and your ass to a couch.

As of right now?

Sweet fuck all really.

I'm vaguely curious about how they turn out, but I'm not really seeing any personal use for a Steam box.

I suppose that could change though.

I went with the controller option.
Other than that, I'll wait and see if there's an option that make sense for me to buy as a media centre fo the livin room. So may need a bluray option

I could not possibly care less about the boxes themselves and I'm still in the minority that thinks the controller looks like ass. Steam OS is mildly interesting but unless it employs some serious black magic and allows me to play all the games I have for windows I'm not gonna switch over.

It means nothing to me. These devices offer nothing worth paying additional money for, nothing I couldn't do with devices I already own.

Also, given my dislike of Steam, an entire operation system built around it is something I'd rather avoid using.

Interested in the controller.

But yeah, if the price is alright I might get one (I surely wont get either of the Next-Gen consoles, heck even the exclusives aren't worth the bullshit of either of them. And who was that boneheaded tit who came up with exclusives? What if I wanted to play Forza on my PC instead of the XBox, or any Ace Combat that isn't Assault Horizon?).

Would that not fit under the category of putting steamOS on a PC?

A purpose built PC, with steamOS on it hooked up to your TV *IS* a steam machine after all, with the possible disadvantage that there may not be awesome drivers unless you choose hardware that is on valve's list of ideal components. I would assume that valve will deal with Nividia etc to get them to make great drivers for linux for the hardware specs that are recommended, but I wouldn't count on awesome linux drivers for everything, at least not at launch of steam OS.

I think this will be an advantage of Steam machines over PC. It lets devs optimize for specific hardware, in a similar way that they do for consoles.

Edit: This is some good data guys, it seems that about 60% of gamers (at least forum users on the escapist gamers) are not interested in the slightest in this, which is, I think, to be expected. Most gamers already have some kind of kit to play games on, after all, they are gamers... lol.
However, it seems that there are some of us that are interested in this because of the OS, or else the controller, or else because we need an upgrade anyway and don't like the look of the new consoles and/or don't want to build a PC ourselves.
After all, this is essentially a fancy prefab in a cool box that comes pre bundled with SteamOS on it, along with one of the cool new controllers (or a controller from the depths of hell, however you see it).
It also seems that there are some people that are happy to see a push away from windows in the PC sphere. I really hope that Valve makes this OS of theirs a full OS, meaning that I can put a linux word processor, browse the web, use photoshop for linux, browse files, have a desktop, etc, because then there wouldn't really be any disadvantage in changing over completely to Steam OS.

I would consider a markup of about 15-20% over what I could build myself with the same components to be acceptable for price for me, after all, it saves me time doing all the work (time is money), I live in New Zealand so shipping on components would be a *****$$ anyway, and I get a free controller too. If it costs roughly the same as buying components and building myself, I can't see any reason why I would not buy one.

Console is simply NOT AN OPTION in my country, as similarly to Australia there is an INSANE markup on console titles at retail.

Steam Machine seems like a very poor investment on Valve's part.

The console space is already pretty locked in at the Big Three, and I'm pretty sure current Steam users have no incentive to purchase one seeing as... well, they already have a "Steam Machine."

Its release means absolutely nothing to me.
