Play the nice guy angle and try pick her up. Then get rid of her because I am a jerk.

Back the heck up and get away from the whiny witch lol. Unless its something that appeared to need immediate attention (injury, someone just assaulted her)then I'd stay the heck away no use getting involved in someones drama.

Oh dear.

I'm a sucker for this.

Regardless of who the girl is, I feel obligated to go over and at the very least give a hug.

Even if she's ugly.

...

But I won't hug as long if she is.

Joking aside, I've come to the conclusion that most girls don't dig attention when crying.

It confirms the idea that they're drawing attention to themselves, thus worsening it.

When a girl cries, I take it as a sign to leave her alone unless asked to stay.

I once dated a girl who refused help, and would punch me if I came over worried.

It all depends on who they are I guess.

This actually happened to me recently. I don't think she knew I could hear her as I neared, because she stopped once I was in line of sight. Anyway, I just ignored her because I don't think I have any place approaching a stranger and asking how I can cheer them up. In all blunt honesty, I don't trust a girl crying like that anyway. Chances are she did break a nail or something totally trivial and I don't need her drama bringing me down.

The only exception I could see to her crying like that where I could care is if a friend or family member died. This was at my work anyway, so if that was the problem she probably would have been on her way out of work for time off instead of looming around a corner in a hall sobbing.

Maddox suggest that the way to solve a 'crying girl' problem is to wipe out your dick.
Wouden't that only cause more crying?
Hey, its Maddox. I assume he knows what he's talking about (Which doesn't mean I'm going to emulate him).

Holy shit that's blunt.

I'd verify that she had a good reason to be upset, and drag her off to the nearest coffee shop, while getting her to perk up enough to not look up like a mess.
Then, I'd feed her and attempt to coax out of her as unbiased a description of what happened as possible. if she can do so without crying more.

I've done it before with near-strangers; though it was easier or me 'cause she'd seen me on campus and knew I was a fellow student.

The right way to make someone stop crying about something, is give them something else to cry about, so the obvious answer here is to smack them upside the head......
.....Which I wouldn't do.

If I could, I would ask what was wrong, try to help out if I can, and try to make her stop crying.

If she threw a fit about me asking her questions in her despair, or some other feeling, I would open up a door in the nearest object, and then proceed to leave.

Do I know her? If not, I'd just walk past without a second glance. If I do, but I dislike her, I'd do the same. If I do, but can actually stand her presence, I'd inquire as to why she's making an ass of herself in public. Yeah, I'm a blunt dick...

I'd try to help, seeing a girl cry and doing nothing to try to help would make me feel horrible.

Ignoring the situation is out of the question except in very unique circumstances.

Besides, I'd rather be a gentleman than an asshole.

(Though why did you post "see a girl crying"? That's an interesting discussion in and of itself: seeing a boy cry vs a girl.)
Yeah, that'd be to settle a 3 year old argument between Silent Lycoris and myself. It's been going on for so long, and we're going in so many circles, that we finally decided it was time to get some outside opinions :S

The argument is predominately: Are you losing more friends by repressing your emotions than you lost by being open about when something was bothering you?

Long story lol

Whenever someone starts crying and I am right by them it really makes me nervous. I just get really freaked out and feel like I need to get as far away from the person that I can. I would try to help but sooner or later my nervousness would take over and I would leave.

I'd go up and talk to them if, after about a minute, nobody else had. It's not that I am a shy person or anything (yes I am), I just don't like to jump right into potentially explosive situations. You never know what is actually making this person upset.

I'm gonna be honest and say that if she was attractive I'd stop to see if I could help and in the process hit on her.

Go me.
