Well, I wouldn't "lock it away" so much as "toss it aside". When it comes into my hands, I would just think it's a normal notebook that some Death Note fan decorated. I wouldn't give it to a lost and found if it were blank inside, because I kinda like notebooks with quirky decorations like that. So I'd either toss it aside and forget it existed or I'd keep it and just use it as a normal notebook or a sketchbook or something. If I wrote a person's name in it (to record their contact info or something) and then they died, I really would think it was just a coincidence.

I'd consider killing a couple of people I am *REALLY* not fond of, but the fact of the matter is that their deaths would likely not be as painful as they deserve, so it'd be a bit of a waste.

Quick question, OP: Who hasn't heard of Death Note?

OT: Kill a few people who I think, when dead, those can benefit mankind. That's it, mainly.

Some people NEED TO DIE, for the good of the planet rather than the good of mankind, and they need to die in hilarious ways. I would certainly like to see Sarah Palin mauled by wolves, or the president of Rio Tinto die by falling into a 2000 foot deep mine right in the middle of a crucial place for wildlife (which they are actually planning to do, the cunts.)

Use it once to kill someone really, really evil (the rules of the Death Note say that once found, a human is required to use it at least once), and then relinquish it.
Where is that rule stated? I saw the anime, and I've seen the light novels (including the one that has a list of all the rules on one of the covers or something), and in none of those do I recall seeing a rule saying it has to be used once found. That would be a bit crap, after all...
"It is prerequisite for the Death Note used in the human world that a living god of death makes sure that the humans in the human world uses it."

That's the closest thing I can get to the rule I was talking about before (I couldn't find any two websites that different list conflicting sets f rules), I'm pretty sure the "must be used once" rule popped up somewhere near the end of the anime.

Hmmmm, that's a bit dodgy as a binding rule. I'm certain I never saw a rule like that near the end, and indeed there are several characters who didn't use the Note after they officially became 'Notebearers', however temporarily they held that status (best term I could think of). Particularly most of the SPK and the Tokyo investigators. As for the quote you refer to, that's down to the Shinigami themselves to uphold, and usually they're the ones using it anyway, so it can't be held as true for humans. Bear in mind there are some rules that only apply to Shinigami anyway, that's even a major plot point if you recall (like the gaining greater lifespan when you kill, that type of thing...).

(There's a bit of a gap between this and the last post, I don't know the ettiqute of such things...)

I'd probably use it to kill off the people I hate the most, then burn it so no one else can use it...

Well for starters, I'd kill everybody who'd ever wronged or slighted me in my whole life. With that accomplished, I'd probably kill everyone who had political beliefs I found offensive (not just disagreeable, I mean downright inflammatory, like those guys who call for the integration of church and state; they're dangerous), every major religious leader (to try and kill organized religion, and for the lulz), and then a few miscellaneous others who I and many others hate, e.g. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Stephanie Meyer, etc. Basically, I'd use it for my own selfish purposes. Don't think I'd try and become some kind of ruler with its power, since its power is so limited. Doesn't protect you from a swat team barging in and shooting you, I'm sure.

Kill people I don't like first, then wipe out those who I deem dangerous.

I think I'd use it to eliminate the most vocal and whiny of any given fanbase. I think I'd start with Sonic fans.

Use it as a place to write a crappy, erotic fan-fiction about the forbidden, homosexual relations of an orc and a night elf who frequent furry/anime/comic conventions where they cosplay in costumes atop their fursuits and act 'kawaii.'
