Hey folks

So I've just finished watching all the Harry Potter films back to back... again, and I have a question for you. At the end of the eighth film after Harry has killed Voldemort he snaps the Elder Wand and throws it away. My question to you all is: In Harry's position what would you have done and why?

Would you have kept the wand for yourself or would you have destroyed it?

I don't believe that's an answer to the question I asked.
Sorry.

I would have probably kept the Wand but said it was destroyed. Despite Voldemort being dead theres still a chance someone could take a pop at Harry in revenge so it could come in useful as when not aided by deus ex machina or however it's spelt, Harry is a ridiculously average wizard whose only spell is casting plot armour.

I would'a banged Cho.

......

Oh sorry you want an answer to your question! I dunno. Probably would've destroyed it to. You don't wanna narrowly avoid death then have a ton of wizards trying to kill you to get the Elder Wand. :/

I understand why he destroys it, for the big picture and the greater good and all, but I would have done things a little differently. I would have kept the wand for myself but then when I had attained a great age and was on my deathbed I'd have it destroyed so no one else could use it.

Only two options? I would have kept it, but not for myself. It'd be protected by some enchantment that only allows it to be used when it's absolutely necessary to save the world, or maybe, you know, tidy up the Hogwarts grounds a bit after epic magic battles.

I would destroy it. No need to worry about protecting it.

Ah, but isn't that what Dumbledor had planned to do, and look how that turned out for him. I would keep it, but pull a Hagrid and hide it in a walking stick (he used an umbrella, but walking sticks are cooler)

Although I'll tell you what I wouldn't do: I wouldn't give all my children horribly contrived names after everyone I knew who had ever been murdered. I wouldn't have been surprised if, in that surreal ending chapter, Neville introduced his kid called "Hedwig Dobby Mrs. Norris Longbottom"

Why would you need more than two? The decision for him does pretty much boil down to keeping it or getting rid of it. That's why I asked for people to say why they would keep or destroy it, so they can expand on why they would make their decision. I can't really think of any other options you would need.

Kept it. Screw you guys, I'm the most powerful wizard of all time and I'm staying that way. Maybe when I die, I'll break it, but for now I'm keeping my trophy for defeating Lord Mouldywarts.

If Harry was my father and he called me Albus Severus Potter, I wouldn't complain about being named after the people who died. I'd complain about why he chose Albus as my first name instead of Severus. Severus is so much cooler.

Wasn't the whole point of that wand that everyone who ever used it was killed for it? Why on Earth would you possibly keep the thing?

Wouldn't you still have the graverobbing/mortal combat issue with entombing? The wand would still be out there, and it'd still be bonded to you, so you'd still be a target.

Destroying it is the safer choice.

The only people who knew it was the Elder Wand were Ron and Hermione, and they were the only people who saw him destroy it.

I unfortunately still haven't read the 7th book. Is that what he did in the book? He put it back in Dumbledores grave instead of destroying it?

IIRC, that's what he does, yeah.

If it's a Harry Potter question then that answer is acceptable for all situations. /s

But seriously I would probably destroy it, I mean I'm already a freaking wizard, how much easier does life need to be?
