I have to say I'm pretty skeptical that the thing was all that great to begin with. Harry, a mere student, just grabbed it out of the hands of one of the most powerful wizards ever. Ditto for Malfoy. I'd just as soon use my perfectly function wand rather than than have an ever-so-slightly more powerful stick that everyone and his dog is going to be chasing after me for. No thank you.

Fine, I'd keep the wand. Use it's awesome, fuck off powers to go back in time, and then repeatedly watch that bit from the last film when you see down her top.

Yes Hermione Cleavage.

EDIT: sorry for double quote, dont know what happened there.

I saw the movie twice, but don't remember that bit.

Draco cast a spell to disarm an extremely weakened Dumbledore, somehow the wand decided that Malfoy was clearly the superior man so it became his instead.
Er, in the books at least, Dumbledore had decided long in advance to let Malfoy beat him, I don't think it mattered if Malfoy actually used a spell or not.

But yeah, what about all the other wizard fights? What about the practicing in the room of requirements, doesn't that count, or the wizard duel in the department of mysteries, or the time they attacked Snape, or the time Snape was attacked by Harry's dad or...

Its the bit when they fall off the silly cart thingy i the giant caverns that apparently exist under London.

You should remember it, it's about the best bit in the film :p

Actually that's not fair to say, I quite enjoyed the last one.

Interestingly enough, the film and book disagree on this, he snaps it in the film so it definitely can't be used, whilst in the book, he keeps it only so he won't use it and let it's power be broken when he dies of natural causes, but that depends on him living the rest of his life undefeated and never getting disarmed.

Hey folks

So I've just finished watching all the Harry Potter films back to back... again, and I have a question for you. At the end of the eighth film after Harry has killed Voldemort he snaps the Elder Wand and throws it away. My question to you all is: In Harry's position what would you have done and why?

Would you have kept the wand for yourself or would you have destroyed it?
They changed the ending for the final book as well? Weak. Was better when gave it back to Dumbledore.

Anyway, don't really know.

Destroy the thing. While it's the cliche 'wise' solution, the fact remains that someday you're going to get assassinated by someone trying to get hold of it. Not only that but once you're dead, any idiot can have ultimate power, not to mention the wars that would be fought over it.

I'm not really seeing any advantage to having it unless you have a really pressing need to kill people. Even with Death Eaters it looks like, at least before they all broke out, that was more a matter of finding them than overcoming them once you did. It doesn't seem like there's a wizard Iran that everyone needs to guard against or anything so having an unbeatable weapon seems a bit... unnecessary. Maybe it can be used to do incredibly powerful useful things too, who knows.

I would have destroyed it as well. The last thing I need after saving the world, is a bunch of wizards trying to one-up me (or kill me) to gain possession of the Elder Wand. It's best to break it into a million pieces and toss the little trouble maker into the ocean.

To be absolutely fair, that one line is far more interesting than anything else in this thread.
The question of what movie and thus what age group you would first tap Miss Granger is a much, much more interesting topic.[footnote]Though we would have to check with Doctor Professor Surgeon General Jonathan Holmes to see if its paedophilia or not.[/footnote]

And to help everyone along that train of thought, let me introduce

On topic: Don't care. Probably use it to take over the world. Lets face it, the wizarding world is full of a bunch of pussies. And their strongest fighters were a bunch of school kids for fracks sake. Harry Potter is total animeverse.
And the school was badly fucked up so yeah, Harry probably could have taken over no problem.
But Ima hold out voting for the "Bang Hermione" poll option.

destroy it, make a replica, announce that I hid it somewhere then place the replica in a temple full of traps. Anyone dumb or greedy enough to actually want that wand will either die or go through a lot of trouble to get a pointy stick

Only two options? I would have kept it, but not for myself. It'd be protected by some enchantment that only allows it to be used when it's absolutely necessary to save the world, or maybe, you know, tidy up the Hogwarts grounds a bit after epic magic battles.
Why would you need more than two? The decision for him does pretty much boil down to keeping it or getting rid of it. That's why I asked for people to say why they would keep or destroy it, so they can expand on why they would make their decision. I can't really think of any other options you would need.
Well there's the option he chose in the books. That he decided to hide it somewhere no-one would ever find it so that the wand would belong to someone who was undefeated and be destroyed that way. I would most likely do that. Which means I neither keep it nor destroy it.

I was thinking that.
But I thought the final film skullfucked everything else as well.

OT: I would've put it back in Dumbledore's grave, or somewhere nobody would ever find it, like a deep jungle in South America.
Then there would be wizard equivalents of Indiana Jones searching for it to return it to a wizarding museum, which would be awesome.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it's indestructible by mortal hands, otherwise wouldn't Dumbledore have done it himself to prevent Voldemort from getting it?

Keep it I guess, I mean how many people knew Harry had the Elder wand? As long he didn't over used it for powerful stuff it would be perfectly fine keeping it without anyone trying to kill him in his sleep.

Nah, I think I would've destroyed it too. Like Ron says in the book, it'd be too hard not to be corrupted by the power, and there's a lot of dark wizards out there still who'd love to get their hands on it.
