I only buy games that I see myself replaying or playing online. If i'm only going to beat the game once and never play it again why spend $60 when I can rent it for 1/5th of the price?

Agreed. Or I wait for it to be cheap a few months down the road, such as used or whatnot. I laughed at people buying Portal 2 at full price when the price decreased a week later.

I don't really care about replayablity. Very few games have warranted extra playthroughs for me.
BioShock, Mass Effect, Resident Evil 4, Star Wars BattleFront 2, and Silent Hill 2 are all that I can recall and even then only the BioShock and SWB2 playthroughs were ones I actually wanted to replay rather than to just go back through for some extra little thing.

Nothing. Games got prettier, easier and you don't have to start from scratch since you have save games. An unreplayable game is one that self-destructs or demands another quarter after you finish it or lose X number of lives.

Replayability nowadays is achieved by Achievements and DLC. Just an opinion here but i believe Developers don't add cheatcodes as often anymore because they can make you get bored really quickly after that initial excitment.

I do think games should have better replay ability I don't want developers to try to force it into games. There are plenty out there with good replay value though, mostly in the RPG area, but the likes of Mass Effect, Fallout, Witcher 2 (good for at least 2 solid replays story wise) and also short games like Call of Duty, I've played the campaigns for MW1, MW2 and 2 at least four times a piece... Ohh and Borderlands, I have beaten that game I think to date 11 times, 2x with each character (to get to level 50) and one extra time playing only online with a group of people.

New game+ is something that nearly every RPG needs.

Not all of them can have it, I understand that but it such a pain to go trough so much hassle to get that infinte plus one sword/hammer/axe/staff/armor.

I prefer the replayability that games like Morrowind offer.

When I was playing Prototype, I spent more than 50 percent of it fucking around the early stages with all the powers. Mass Effect is also a great example of this kind of replay. When you start again with more than the socks around your ankles.
Why can't more games have this? I would have loved to play through FF thirteen again with all my stuff! Devil May Cry does it...why can't you!
Some say 'It ruins it for some games'. I personally don't buy it. I had the most fun playing KOTOR 2 when I used a cheat save that gave me all my stuff from the start.
Almost every Bioware game should have this. Also JRPG's. It's fun! I don't wanna find all the weapon upgrades for the assault rifle again on Vanquish. I already did it!

That felt good...what do you think? Should more games have this kind of replayability? And if so, why?
You seem to have a very narrow definition of replay value. I agree, this is one way to add replay value, but if all games did it it would simply get old more quickly.

To answer the question you posed, replay value is going away for the same reason that challenge very largely is going away. The AAA companies are marketing lesser games with prettier graphics to a more mainstream audience. And what do we know about mainstream audiences?

No offense but that hassle is the core of what RPGs are about gameplay wise. So if you don't enjoy that maybe the genre is not for you.

I think it depends on your mentality of the game. I mean I've played through Resident Evil 4 about 60+ times and I'm still not tired of it. I believe that it has amazing replayability for an action game, and I think you can apply that to basically any game if you like it enough.

Ratchet and Clank games have challenge mode.

When you complete the game you can replay it again but you keep all of your previous weapons and gadgets and enemies are now stronger and do more damage.

replayability today means youre expected to play online for hours. which is fine i have no problem with that, but i would like to see more replayability in single player games. i think achievements/trophies add a bit of replayability if you like to try and get them all.

i can see this for long games that have multiple endings but im not going to replay a game just to see more powers. i mean i thought prototype had pretty poor replayability. i beat the final boss and i was like, "wait theres still more game? what do i do...? oh its just those pointless side missions...? okay im done with this game now."

That's not what I meant. I mean the hassle to acquire material for it as most infinte stuff has to be crafted. And often it is the most rare and hard to get materials.

Grinding to level up your characters I can take but material grinding that requires a shitload of luck to get I do not.

New game plus needs to be put in all FF remakes and games in the future.
Alternate endings and paths need to be made on unbeatable characters.

I don't think the actual replayability of a game has changed, I just think we have so much more choice now there is less need to replay. Take Doom - it has as much replayability as any current game, or rather a current game has as much as Doom, yet I played that for thousands of hours. Why? because at the time I didn't have much else to play.

New Game+, the main reason I have finished Ratchet and Clank games, Jak and Daxter games, Jade Empire and Mass Effect so many times. Though I finish KOTOR 1 and 2 every time I get bored, simply because they just don't get boring for me, no matter how many times I replay them.
