Well what do you think is cooler to watch or be in?

i asked this question to someone in my class and he rekoned Gunfighting looked way cooler.

I disagreed so who's with me?

i like Sword fighting i think it looks really cool and would be epic to have a full on sword battle with some.

Well for me it would depend on what type of movie, but I prefer swordfighting since I like the fantasy genre more then the action genre, swordfighting to me is cooler since its close combat instead of far away like guns, also you can slice, dice and take their head off instantly.

Your poll's buggered, mate.

OT: To watch, the only gunfights worth watching are a la Equilibrium (the end fight between Dupont and Preston) but they hardly exist.

Fist fighting... nnnnnn, being of the 'pretentious-i-like-elegance-because-i-am-a-ponce' crowd, I tend towards martial arts, consequently, Jet Li in Fearless is what I go for. Sword fighting, down a similar road, though fencing (western) can be pretty good too.

Participating... never been in a gunfight, don't think I'd want to be in one either. I've fought people with fists (lost more than I've won, so not that well, clearly) and swords (more or less equal win/loss ratio, though that counts the fights I've had against people wielding yari, tonfa, jo's, bo's and naginata - and of that list, I suck with them all except the jo), but I like to think I'm better with a sword than without.

Go figure... -_-

Fist fighting is great, especially when its free style and done by complete amateurs, you can see how they try to imitate others, and how they deal with pain.
Free style fist fighting in an anime medium would be insanely good if done properly, and actual real fist fighting done by a talented director will buy my ticket to see that movie. Four times. And buy their Dvd twice.

Assuming we are talking about a realistic fight I think sword is the coolest to look at. Gun fights are usually just a few guys peeking from behind cover seeing if they can shoot without getting shot. Sword Fights on the other hand have a certain aesthetic to them that is very cool to look at. As for being in one I would rather be in a firefight, this is because I can use a rifle or pistol much better than a sword or my fists.

I love sword fighting. Despise fistfights, especially characters from the final fantasy universe (Tifa and Snow). Gunfights I find are all about taking cover and its not that great. There is only one way to fire a gun.

In my eyes, fight scenes are either good or bad, but I think more of the sword/fist scenes are good, then I think gun scenes are good..

So my vote would go to either sword or fist.. I think I'll have to go with swords..

Never been in or saw a gunfight but i an only imagine that it's gonna be
1. Fast and over with before "now where did I put my camera"
or 2. an incredibly slow siege style situation

Im a Special Constable for the police so I see fistfights on a daily basis and its never pretty.
But i was (and still would be if there were enough hours in the day XD) a medieval reenactor and I can tell you that a swordfight between two trained and armoured men generally turns into a wrestling match, so thats why i say one of the above please As i have a bardiche ^.^

Gunfighting, for sure. Have you seen some of Black Lagoon's gunfight sequences?

Couldn't find a clip of decent quality with the original audio.

EDIT: Found this one. Original audio and all. Some little glitches with the visuals. Skip forward to about 1:10.

I dislike fistfights, but I think gun fights are pretty cool in movies, but I am a sucker for a good swordfight, which is why I think the opening for Devil may cry 3 is so cool, with the epic swordfight between Dante and Vergil. case in point:

If that isn't epic, then I don't know what is.

Wait, when you say fistfight, does kung fu count? Because then it's definately fistfights. Otherwise sword. Guns are just so... easy. Just point the gun and pull the trigger. And then it's over.

Depends on who's filming it.

A fistfight looks coolest if you're in a western and its three men of suspicious motivation and ethics on top of a train going 80 yet they still have their hats on and aren't hurled off by the corners.

A swordfight ironically often looks coolest when it's more realistic, at least for me. Every time I see Antonio Banderas triple flip over a table, all i can think is 'a competent swordfighter just had three full opportunities to stab him right in the heart while he was flipping around.' Compare that with the end fight of say, Rob Roy, and watch how emotionally charged and awesome Liam Neeson lumbering around like a big Scottish bear can be.

Alternatively watch The Princess Bride, which isn't realistic, but is supposed to be how an eight year old boy sees swordfighting, so it's pretty much running solely on rule of cool.

And gunfighting looks coolest when John Woo is behind the wheel, and at no other times

ONLY KIDDING

Of course gunfights can look cool, but they can never look realistic and cool. Realistic gunfighting is crouching down behind a wall while an indistinct spec fires at you from behind another wall and is just as boring as Gears of War makes it look. Cool gunfighting by comparison is done out in the open and most involve as many physics defying shots as possible while the heroes never get shot except possibly in their shoulders at the very end.

And you must never reload.

I think in general fistfighting and swordfighting look cooler because even if they're done realistically they can look cool, whereas to believe a cool gunfight you have to have a pretty massive willing suspension of disbelief.

I definitely think that sword fighting looks the coolest, and is the most awesome way to do battle oneself. Fist fighting can be awesome too, but if it's realistic it's more likely to turn into a grappling match.

Gunfights on the other hand can look really amazing, but generally only when they have nothing to do with an actual firefight in any way shape or form (think anime style... which really shouldn't count for this sort of thing). They can also be very cinematic, if done properly, due to the suddenness of death (like in a really good western for example).

But honestly when it comes to sword fighting, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!

Swordsmanship(and by extension other forms of close-quarters weapon based combat)is the coolest of the three, epee in particular is my favourite to watch.I've been looking for somewhere I can learn it myself,so hard to find tho :-S

Next on the hierarchy is unarmed combat, but it's a VERY close point to call.

I've seen some seriously amazing displays of combat capability both armed and unarmed, but the weapons add an extra element of mastery beyond using bits that most of humanity already possess a pretty solid working knowledge of anyways.

Does fist fight mean kund fu? I would have to choose sword fight over gun fight since gun fight then to be about hide/dodge and shoot while sword is being up close.
Also a gun fight can be cut short when they ran out of ammo, well ok it can be said the same thing with sword if both swords become too damage to slash/ stab each oteher.

You know what's cooler than a swordfight? A lightsaber fight.

Nerdiness put aside, I think it depends on how well the fight is artistally portrayed or choreographed. For example, some of the gunfight and fistfight scenes in the matrix were awesome and essentially defined "bullet-time" in movies.

I'm a sucker for old martial arts movies, so I'll have to go with fistfighting. I have yet to see a Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movie that didnt entertain.
