So I've been Playing Fallout:New Vegas..... and loving it! [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.265138-So-New-Vegas-just-BURNd-me#10081347] If you're on the fence cause you thought FO3 was too gray and bland (like i was), let me help you out: compared to The Mojave Wasteland, the Capital Wasteland was a muddy gray wallpaper someone had pasted 3 feet from your face. It is MUCH better.

But, I digress. I wanted to talk about a very natural thought process i experienced whilst playing, namely: Where does Fallout go from here? These are a few of the options, as i see them, discussed in detail, although i would love to hear any ideas, that my measly, mortal braincase couldn't envision:

1)Fallout in another American Region: I fully understand that Fallout is very much an American thing. One of it's single biggest themes and points of discussion, is the "Cold-War American paranoia culture". And it's been told well in almost ALL fallout games, as far as i know (though I've only played the 2 most recent; I'm young okay!). However......is it getting old? Not the theme, that's fine. Just the setting. I mean where could you have it: New York could work(Is that what the Commonwealth is, btw?), but it would be a little cliched by now(A penny for every apocalyptic Times Square...). Maybe Detroit or something?

2)Fallout in Europe: I'm not fully up in the Fallout Lore, so i don't actually know if the Chinese bombed Europe; and if they did, to what extent. And would a non-post-apocalyptic Fallout work at all? It'd certainly be a departure. Anyway, where in Europe would you like to play? I'm thinking Great Britain, but a scaled down version of All/most of it, would be pretty damn awesome, wouldn't it? If that can't be done in one game, why not have 2-3 episodic chapters in different parts of Europe all under the guise of Fallout 4? Akin to Half-life 2, although in retrospect, that isn't a very good archtype at all....

3)Fallout in.... China: Personally, I would've preferred a bombed out Siberian(Russia) Wasteland to China, but I don't know how pivotal the USSR was in FO lore. But yeah.....China? Fallout always let you see from different Perspectives didn't it? Every faction in New Vegas has their flaws and pluses for example. Why not portray how American actions affect those distant neighbors? Would it work? It would, again, be a bold step and a big break from the series.

4)Fallout.....before/during the War [sub](covers face)[/sub]: Yes, i know it's called FALLOUT for a very specific reason. But why not? Note: I'm not calling for a linear FPS version of Fallout akin to Call of Duty. I think we can unanimously agree that that would suck. But maybe play as a Globe-trotting Mercenary (-team Leader) with no borders, who can take missions from US, China, Russia, RobCo, Other Corporations (which is also a big sub-theme of Fallout as far as i can see) .etc. in the climactic times leading up to the Nuclear Apocalypse?

5)Other: Space? Antarctica? Far Future?

So what would you pick? Note, this isn't about what "What you think Bethesda WILL make"; It's about what you guys "WANT to see".

Let it die. Please just let it die in peace.

Or if you have to make another one just let Obsidian handle all the writing.

I am pretty sure this has been done before quite a few times however I can never think of an answer. Maybe Europe, where it still rains. That would mix things up a bit.

My original thoughts for a UK version would include; crazed mutant type Chavs on mopeds who'd attack you shouting 'you looking at me bird?!!', Football Hooligans with St George's Cross' and chants/songs. I've also thought of including a vampiric/ghoulish-type inbred Royal Family, adding them in as a faction you'd be able to choose to side with or not. Of course there'd also be mutated fauna, I'm thinking oversized rabid Badgers, Hedgehogs and Foxes, though a version of the beast of Bodmin moors would be cool.

There's plenty of other stuff to parody, the BBC, Football (not American), the Loche Ness Monster, more serial killers than you could wave a stick at and of course not forgetting the heinous, despicable root of all that is Evil; "Simon Cowell".

I think the main thing that could be of benefit, would be the lack of Subway tunnels in most UK Cities, meaning they could spend some time on creating different scenic areas (blocking off others due to 'Radiation hotspots' ala Sellafield) of even just allow Global warming to have its piece of the pie(flooded regions).

Anyways, thats my 2 pence, there's plenty more ideas where those came from, if I had a spare 2 years I'd maybe go for it and create a mod, but I don't, so I dream on...

Fallout New York!

Well, you'd have to find some way how to tie that story with Fallout 3's story since DC and New York aren't as far away compared to Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas' setting.

The Commonwealth is Massachusetts FYI. The Institute they refer to is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) I believe. Something set in the New England area would be kind of cool. The Commonwealth could be at war with Rhode Island or something that would be kind of funny.

Having it take place in Africa would be kind of cool too. Mutant lions and elephants.

Fallout in Canada, you'd fight irradiated polar bears and you would have a valid excuse to club seals to death since they'd be trying to kill you.

You guys are all missing the point. You don't understand. You weren't there at the beginning. Fallout is about one place. It has only ever been about one place. It is the STORY of that ONE PLACE. And that place is California and the areas around it. Every time they start to stray from California, the games suck. (The exception being Fallout 3, which gets a pass)

Fallout 2 is to this day still the greatest game ever made, if for no other reason then these three words. Lesbian Shotgun Wedding. At that point, fallout 2 won video game design for all time. Both 1 and 2 had something special going for them. A wicked sense of humor combined with very self-aware satire.

For the first time in 13 years, fallout is back in the hands of its creators. Feargus Urquhart, and Chris Avellone. Tim Cain is unfortunately doing his own thing, but Black Isle studios was, hands down, the best development team ever. And most of them are at obsidian. Now Bethesda I will give credit to for resurrecting fallout. And they were then smart enough to hand it off to its parents. Bethesda/Obsidian have a LOT of potential. More so even than squeenix. To those of you suggesting that Fallout should die with dignity... you first.

There have been 4 fallout games that matter. 1, 2, 3 and vegas. The rest never happened. Now the only piece missing is Tim Cain's warped sense of humor. But there are a lot of people with warped senses of humor.

So, tl;dr

Keep fallout in California where it freaking belongs. If you MUST switch location, do like vegas did and keep it close, and LET US GO BACK THERE. Klamath has gotten huge since fallout 1. I wanna see the new metropolis.

They mentioned the commonwealth in Fallout 3. A faction located further up the east coast of the former U.S. Also what might be interesting is a sequel to the last few games, taking place 100 years later, like society is starting to come back, and everything has changed (except war :p).

What about a Fallout somewhere in the Midwest, like past the eastern border of Legion territory? We've got a wonderfully fleshed out lore for the west coast area, The Capital Wasteland is covered, but what about the space in between the two? There's bound to be something of interest wandering the open plains, perhaps some kind of great monster roaming the Utah Salt Flats or an old tribe of nature-lovers occupying a now-overgrown Yellowstone Park? With all that extra, unknown space, the possibilities are almost endless.

Come to think of it, what about the Florida Everglades, or the Bayous of Louisianna? Those areas would be incredible to see after being washed with radiation. If Giant Ants, Radscorpions, Deathclaws, and Yao Guai are any indication as to what genetic engineering and radiation can do, just think of the abominations and monstrosities that lurk in those ancient swamps... @_@;

I'd like to see the Commonwealth. They went on about it so much in F3 it was kinda disappointing that it wasn't in a DLC.

How about further into the future like in New Vegas but more so when small cities are not built from the remaining rubble of older times but new towns that are actually built from the ground up. Instead of the only having the really clean buildings always being pre-war bunkers, vaults and the like. I'm not to concerned with what nation does it but I think the thought of Fallout's post-war Limited numbers of (Normal/Pure/Cival)humans hidden away from the Nuclear Fallout and scavenging to survive is from the 1950's(?) United States paranoia with nukes falling on us, I've never really heard of other nations making 1000s of bombshelters all other the place.(Being a fictional world they could say other places either stole, mimiced Vault-Tec or made they're own plans and assorted shelters.)

I mean with the Enclave and Brotherhood of Steel running around and the a large faction like the NCR no has taken the time to make a symbolic sign of new beingings by creating a new City/Town from scratch.

I mean what the closet thing to something actually being an Original Idea/Invention in Fallout that isn't based/rebuilt from the past technology are Fallout 3's Water Purifier,Androids,... Actually I think everything else of major interest are relics of the past(I don't have a lot of playtime with FO 1,2 or very far in Tactics)Like the Vehicles in Tactics,Solar Array in New Vegas, or Rivet City and etc.

Bethesda has enough people to do both, and the two series are kind of symbiotic. They're definitely already at work on a FO4, that's for certain.

Personally, I would love a FO:NY. But I'm not picky. I love what they did with DC. I plugged more than 200 hours into that game, and then I actually moved IRL to Washington recently. It's so weird taking the metro every day...
