Why does everyone seem to group conservatives with racists, homophobes ect. We aren't all like that, and we aren't all bible thumpers. I personally don't see what the issue with gay people is, I mean, they're here (they're queer)* and always have been, might as well learn to deal with them. But then again I'm a Canadian conservative, and we're pretty middle of the road compared to American conservatives.

OT: I went there this summer, and found it to be agreeable, and aside from that one war (which WE won, sorry America, you didn't take us over, you failed, we won and are still here thumbing out self satisfied noses at you over it) relations have been pretty good, so I said "good" on the poll
American conservatives can be pretty unbearable at times, but even a lot of them are very reasonable.

B52 MITO (Minimum Interval Take Off)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ7niLYSVFo

So, to recap:

7,320,000 pounds of airborne pain.

1,050,000 pounds of conventional bombs or 360 nuclear weapons.

No other nation can do this.

We can do it about a dozen times, by which time the first squadron has rearmed, refueled, reloaded.
Odd that. The USA has got loads of weapons, but everyone is in a tizzy about Iran having them. Strange world isn't it? :D
Might have something to do with our leaders not being psychos that think it's their responsibility to bring about the apocalypse.

These political ideas aren't shared by everyone, or even most Americans, for that matter.
I like how you skipped half of my fucking sentence. Truly top notch sir
Note that I put a "..." where I cut your sentence, as I thought it useless to comment upon it. I chose to only speak of the part I had quoted. But now you have my statement, and there is no need for you to be as upset as you are, it comes off as slightly immature.

Oh, and are you a socialist? Just put the answer in an EDIT on your opening post. I don't mean to offend you, I just answered your thread. You can't expect everyone to feel the way you do.
its just that you cut out the part where I talked about civil liberties which i find equally important to me as my socialist economics.

yeah
I apologize. I just didn't see much need to bring that up, as I think that what you said about civil liberties was fairly true, although not entirely true.

So only leaders that don't pray to god for guidance, don't fiddle elections, and don't lie about weapons of mass destruction are allowed to have loads of weapons?

Personally, I'm fascinated by America as a nation - the seemingly chaotic political system (which continues to function, somehow), the unbelievably strong sense of patriotism that transcends all political boundaries, the fact that they are the only nation in the world today who is worthy of the label "superpower" - they are the Roman Empire of the modern world, and the day that the United States collapses is the day that we see the emergence of a new "Dark Ages". I voted exceptional, because America is just straight-up awesome (and I'm Canadian).

America only works because of its symbolism- back in its day, it was "the promised land" , the place where you could go and start anew, and live happily ever after (as an idea), so people flocked to it like mad.

Obviously it turned out to be bull, but nevertheless, America maintained its propaganda after that.

I think(america also thinks) that its moment of glory was WW2. Smelling opportunity, America baited Japan into bombing a useless abandoned harbour, now way too famous, and then had an excuse to go bomb their way into war for profit and glory, seeing as how almost none of the war took place on their homeland (sounds very familiar, amiritie?)

Anyway, after that America never shut up about their awesome victory, they slowly but surely installed themselves in most non-communist country and sealed their image as Jesus-incarnate.

Granted, America did put itself on its feet pretty well, and it worked fine on its own, but it didn't actually give a damn about other countries that worshipped it.

Like a popular jock, it smiled a perfect smile and walked down the alley with 2 cheerleaders in its arms, and spit on the notebook of the geek who asked for its autograph.

In short, America is good for its image , not its content, under that image it's still a heartless bastard like most "saviour" countries out there, it's just very good at putting on a convincing show for ya.

How ignorant are you? The fact that we allow people to be racist, homophobic, conservative, and xenophobic just means that we allow people to say what they want. Isn't that the definition of freedom of speech?
a lot of countries allow their citizens to be racist, homophobic, conservative, and xenophobic. they're just not. thus his point stands.

I know its not just America but they do seem to have the largest amount of ignorant racist nutters (though also lots of sane people), whereas in most other Western countries its not as much of a problem. The same with American applauding itself and patting itself on the back for *gasp* electing a black man, when the rest of the world had got past the whole race and gender thing years ago (hell we elected a women in the 70's). Also its depressing that you can't get elected in America without being an Atheist when in other countries religion doesn't even enter into things. Still I believe America can change and become a truly brilliant country, just needs time, you gave us Buffy the Vampire slayer after all so you must be doing something right.
I brought up the electing the colored-guy thing just to say modern America isn't entirely like how it were in the 1800s. And I believe you mean you can't get in the government if you're an Athiest, which is retarded as well. Being a Christian, I wouldn't mind an Athiest president one bit (in fact I'd kinda like it), as long as he's not one of those nutters that go 'DETH TO RELIGION!!!!'..

Sorry I don't share the same beliefs as you, I just think that what is mine is mine and not the government's. If I want to give my money to other people, then I will, but I don't want other people to force me to give up something I have worked for. If people are in an economic hole, then they should apply for financial help while they look for a job, not just because they want to get a check for doing nothing.

Being a Canadian, I have a hard time on things like XBox Live and Steam because, should any American find out that there's a Canadian playing (much less a girl), then that's when the shit hits the fan. They'll begin screaming about how we all live in igloos, how America is going to invade, and how we're all blubbering idiots. I've recently cancelled XBL and I play on Canadian or European servers on Steam.

See, maybe I'm just meeting the wrong people. Heck, half my family lives in America and they're funny, great people. And I'm going to meet these jerkish people anywhere I go. But I tend to have bad experiences with Americans the most. Oh well- Canadians are all convinced we're superior to Americans anyway. :p

And I do respect America for their international aid- they provide more than any other country- but the cons often outweigh the pros.

You're so right! We are so far behind other Western countries! After all, we are stupid enough to think that privacy is a good thing. Why can't we be more like Britain and monitor our citizens every move?

Or perhaps we could be more like Germany or Australia, each of which uses excessive censorship and banning in video games. And if ONLY we had that 50%+ tax that all Swedish citizens have to pay.
Why do so many Americans feel they have to resort to taking shots at other countries to justify their own?

I'm all for pledging to the flag in school. I did it every day in school and loved it because in other countries, it's either assumed you're loyal, forced to be loyal, or lucky if you even have a government. I was a fortunate to have History class for my first course, even more so that it was instructed by a military veteran. When every other kid in that class was sleeping or gossiping, I was balls-deep in Constitutional history, formation of government, and the basic DNA of what made this country beautiful.

So, I recommend that, if you are a citizen of this country and for some reason hate this country, you really spend some time reading what this country is all about. Inform yourself. Listen to your teachers or professors or even your grandfather or father. This country is better than what CNN or Fox make it out to be. Freedom is our business, and business is good. And, if you still don't like it, you have the freedom to leave.

I find, from my experience living here, that we are a nation of great, progressive people with a paradoxically backward government.

I will probably end up moving to Europe- but not forever. I believe that the ideology of "love it or leave it" is flawed.

I usually think "Don't love it? Work your ass off to change it"

I respectfully disagree with your first paragraph. Number one, how did America 'bait' Japan into attacking this 'useless' harbor? It wasn't useless, it had a good lot of battleships there. And tons of people died. Which obviously doesn't seem to matter to you.

America helped out alot in the world war 2, mind you, like helping out a hell of alot in D-Day (not to mean that the Canadians and Brits didn't help out.). And America had to be 95% of the war effort in the far east (Japan).

Also, I don't see why there aren't any other countries that don't try and adopt Patriotism. You know, pride for your country, which seems to be stereotypically grouped into the 'egotistical' section. Every country has their faults, but it doesn't hurt to say 'I'm proud to be a/an___' if you don't disagree with it's values.

Actually this is what I love about Americans, there just so optimistic and proud of their country its nice and refreshing. Over here in Britain we just look at everything with a kind of vague pessimism and indifference.
