I'm 16 and currently looking for the next anime to blow the socks off of me like Akira. I also recently got into anime, so convert me, all of you! (By recent I mean about a year or so. I don't watch that much anime.)

27, I've been watching anime since I was 13 or 14.

Started with the Slayers series. Then movies like Megazone 23, which taught me that I can't stand dubbing...

These days, I'm following MJP, Shingeki no Kyojin and Hataraku Maou-sama.

It's tantamount to the amount of time each demographic has to waste on the internet really. In reality i've seen them all ages. Right up to age 70+.

Grew up watching doraemon, yuyu hakusho and other stuff. But I don't really watch that much of it. Mostly all the big slice of life and harem anime.

36. I only enjoy the 80s-90s animes. Anime became ruined for me when 500 episode shows became the norm.

18 here, 19 at the end of this year.

I've always watched animated stuff but only started properly being an anime fan at 16 thanks to a couple friends of mine. Been too busy lately however to watch any of the newer stuff though, but a lot of its kinda... crap anyway so it's fine.

I decided to make this thread because I'm curious. It seems that most of the sites I go on most of the people are either high schoolers or in their early 20s. Me being in my mid 30s, it's so hard to meet people in my age range that are anime fans. I mean I've been watching anime well before it became well known. So most people I talk to have very little knowledge on the medium. Please share you're thoughts. Thanks!
I'm in my early 30s, and I've been an anime fan since before most people knew what anime was (ie, since the early 90s).

Actually, if you count the early 80s French/Anime hybrids, then I've been an anime fan longer - I just didn't know what I was watching was anime.

So... yeah. Hi. ^^

20-25 range
I watched digimon/sailor moon/pokemon/DBZ as a kid, though I don't think that itself made me an anime fan, I liked it because , rather than being a fan of the 'genre'.
However, currently I would most definitely describe myself as an anime fan, starting when TeamFourStar did the 1st Hellsing Abridged. That got me to check out Hellsing (So happy episodes 5-8 finally came to English, I love the dub cast and the dvd is practically always in my machine), and from Hellsing I watched a few anime on Netflix (most memorably Claymore) and so on, my all-time favourite being Puella Magi Madoka Magica and currently watching Soul Eater

17.

My gateway drug was Naruto on TOONAMI back in '05. Naruto is still one of my favorites, but I've since moved on to better things, like Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Durarara!!, Baccano!, Steins;Gate, Bebop, and many others.

And my favorite game (Persona 4) is presented like an anime.
You are aware that there is a very good anime adaptation of the game out now with the original voices right? Bad news is that it doesn't have anything from Golden in it but It's still awesome with all the key scenes preserved and the funny moments everyone remembers are also in it (King's Game anyone?)
Saw it during its orginal airing. Loved it to bits.

I don't like the dub, though. It feels weird when the characters don't use the honorifics like they do in the game.
That's what happens when you give what was previously a "select your name" character an actual name but that's why I watched the subs. All of the voice cast from Yui Horie to Showtaro Morikubo to Romi Park all provided the voices in the subs and it was spectacular to see

Thank you for reminding me how old I am.

*sigh*

Now, let's drop the poll with the ages and get creative:

How old are you?

Astro Boy era
Space Battleship Yamato era
Akira era
Ghost in the Shell era

I would be from the Akira era. I'll let you speculate about my age.

I am 24 and like many my first anime was Pokemon, way back when. I am not into anime as I used to be, but I do enjoy watching Paranoia agent, Gantz, FLCL, Baka and test, Blackjack, Hetalia, Persona 4: The animation and Virus: Virus buster Serge. I have been slowly getting back into anime, which explains the inclusion of Hetalia, Baka and test and Persona 4.

I'm 19 turning 20 and I've been watching since the mid - late 90s. My earliest memory regarding anime is Princess Mononoke. I used to stay up late on Saturdays to catch the adult swim runs of Paranoia Agent, Scryed, and a couple others. Now that I have internet I watch all kinds whenever I can.

I think you'll find most answers to be the 18 - 25 range. I think that age range is the main demographic of the escapist.

The film was 88 so if you remember it clearly then you can be late 20s to late 30s (depending on if you were born in the early-mid 80s or sometime in the 70s).

Hi gramps :D

I'm turning 20 in November, and I've been watching anime basically my whole life.

Of course, when I was a kid I didn't understand that there was some definable different between Digimon and Spongebob based on art style.

Exactly me, too. I didn't mention things like Thundercats and Astro Boy and the regular staples of the 80's, because I had no idea anime even existed then. I thought all of the things I watched were Canadian/American until the internet happened and people started learning these things, which was about the Sailor Moon/Dragon Ball time.

Edit: I remember my cousn showed me Akira not long after it came out... I don't remember how old I was, but I can describe the baby and the ending... blow...up... thing very well still. I was kinda scarred by it.

Dude, forget everything the game did better than the anime (ie everything), the Kings Game was fucking gold in the animated version. Actually, I love what they did with the brotagonist in general. He was cool, hilarious, a bit of an oddball but still ambigious enough to be the 'self-insert' that he was in the game. Brilliant.

OT: I'm 19, and I really got into anime and manga a few years ago after a friend of mine insisted I watch Death Note. Been watching the classics ever since getting into it and am following seasonal now.

I am a gamer who isn't interested in anime at all. I am a freak within gaming culture, because it seems one naturally leads to the other.

I've reached 20, but I first started watching when I was 14 (younger if you count the cool shows that actually aired in Australia/New Zealand like Pokemon or CardCaptors).

I used to stress that I would be uncool if i continued watching as an adult, but a huge number of anime are targeted towards older audiences. It's probably the assumption that cartoons are for children. Now, I don't really care, I like it too much.
