Of all time would have to be the Amiga.

The hardware was way ahead of it's time, better even than the PC back then. It played sampled music and sound effects, back when everything else was still making bleebs. Fast 32 color multi-layer scrolling, when all the PC had was slow EGA 16 color.

The consoles listed are not the most powerful hardware available today. The PS3 does have the cell, but it's held back in other areas (memory, gpu).

Why the hell is super nintendo winning this?

(question not a critisizm, don't shout at me fanboys I'm too young to remember it!)
Because many of us has started gaming on it. Including me.

PC is good but God decided it was time for man to enjoy games with more than one person per system a thus the console was created. But seriously who didn't love games like Timesplitters, SSBM and Mario Cart with 4 players??

What no Playstation!?!?

Thats the console that bascially laid out the blueprint for all modern consoles not to mention that half of the greatest game franchises ever began with their first release on the Playstation.
Which ones?

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Metal Gear Solid, and it didn't really start there it was a sequel to the Metal Gear games on the NES (it even gives those games as part of Snake's history.)

Feel free to exclude games that update every year: that's not great, that's repetitive.

Because many of the games on it are not only still playable but FUN 15 years later (and they don't look or sound too bad either.)

I love the Ps2. I'm just now discovering a crapload of awesome games for it. As for handhelds, if they count, I gotta say the Gameboy Advance. Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, and dare I say it, "good" Final Fantasy ports made it and in my opinion STILL make it the go-to handheld of rpg fans.

I didn't put the PC on here because I'm talking about gaming platforms only. systems that were designed with games in mind. The PC was designed to do many other things in addition to games. (research, control satellites, etc.) Computers do to much to be classified as primary gaming consoles.

I was going to put the PS1 and 64 on here but I wanted give the retro fans something to work with.
If this thread goes well I will post anther with different choices

Handhelds aren't really consoles but I may start a thread with just them. (Too many to list here).

You could say this is flawed, many systems have been best at one thing or another but very few were best all rounders.

My vote still goes to Ps2 though cuz it was significantly better than its' rivals at the time and the games still rock!

Star wars battlefront 2 on Ps2 remains my favourite game of all time
ps2 for same reason

Nintendo 64 is my favorite. Just because I think it has legendary games that doesnt exist on other consoles (well maybe on the wii). After that I would go for the original xbox for the amazing graphics, games, and internet play that at that time was not populated by 14 year old twats. PS2 has the best/largest library, but its not my favorite.

Instead we have the Gamecube, which had about two decent games.
I'm gonna have to vote PS2 as that's the only console that I have that can play all the Ape Escapes on(not including Ape Academy). I agree, why is the PS1 not on there? I bought a PS1 game off of eBay last week even though I have loads of PS3 games that I can play on instead

Recently, why does it seem (at least I feel) that the best consoles of the generation were the ones that got in there first, I talk of the Ps2 and xbox 360. Come to think of it I think Ps1 was first in its' generation as well allthough I'm not entirely sure

(this is going to start arguments and I know it, sorry...)

woah it hasn't done (yet)

you can't honestly say that the super nintendo was better than an xbox, or ps3. If you say so, you're a nostalgic moron. Don't get me wrong, the super nintendo, and everything on the list was great. But to say that a system 10 years old is better than current is stupid.
