Which ones?
The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Metal Gear Solid, and it didn't really start there it was a sequel to the Metal Gear games on the NES (it even gives those games as part of Snake's history.)
Feel free to exclude games that update every year: that's not great, that's repetitive.
Are you serious?
Ace Combat
Tomb Raider
Gran Turismo
Tekken
Wipeout
Grand theft Auto
Resident Evil
Silent Hill
Thats just off the top of my head.
Some of these did have arcade or PC releases but they were released for the console market on the Playstation first. Even then I think the Playstation made the Metal Gear and Final Fantasy series what they are today although they began life on Nintendo(heavily biased opinion).
I've owned nearly and played on all consoles since the NES and out of all them the Playstation One is the console I enjoyed the most.
Ace Combat isn't a great series
Tomb Raider hasn't been good SINCE the ps1
Gran Turismo I'll give ya this one
Tekken was an arcade game first
Wipeout was ALSO an arcade game (saw the game in a movie that came out some time around '92)
Grand theft Auto didn't get big until the ps2 version
Resident Evil another one that hasn't been good since the ps1
Silent Hill rode resident evil's coattails straight into mediocrity at the same time as resident evil.
A great series is one like Zelda or Metroid that has been around forever, and I understand that some of you think it all started with the ps1, but almost every game series on there was a rehash of 20 other games from ten years before it came out (RE being the only real exception here, I can't think of any big survival horror games before it.)
And the playstation RUINED Metal Gear and Final Fantasy (though 7 was great.)
