For some reason I cant imagine many 28 year olds browsing these forums.
I believe the_root_of_all_evil is over 30.
Edit: Root is actually over 40 now
Wow, I thought he was 25 or something. The more you know, I guess.
Huh, looking at the poll theres a lot more people in the 28-33 range than I expected. Looks like my assumptions were wrong.
Well, I think you kind of have to put that in perspective of gaming's history.
On the assumption that most people started gaming as children, let's pick an arbitrary age and say... It's something you'd start at about the age of 8.
On that basis, the 28-33 age range would've been that age in the period between 1987 and 1992.
Which is basically somewhere between NES and Snes/Megadrive era... And I'd have to say the first really obvious peak of gaming as a relatively mainstream hobby.
If you're any older than that, your introduction to gaming, was, what? Atari 2600 games? Arcade titles? ZX spectrum?
Or otherwise someone who got into it later in life...
While those older systems were interesting in their own way, it's quite a challenge to relate that to modern gaming culture...
The remnants of the NES and Snes/Megadrive periods however are still alive and kicking.
Mario & sonic are still around. So is mortal combat. Street Fighter...
If you were into PC games, the work of Maxis is still recognisable. As is Civilisation.
Doom inspired the FPS genre...
The likes of Final Fantasy, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania and the like are still around...
For that matter, this age group would have been teenagers in the PS1 era...
The vast majority of franchises and recognisably modern game ideas all originated in the period where the 28-33 year old group would've been children or teenagers.
Beyond that age, you start to see a lot of games and ideas that are all but forgotten.
Or something anyway.
I'm thinking there'd be a sudden obvious drop for anyone whose childhood predates about 1985... The connection between modern games, and anything earlier than that just starts to seem a bit too tenuous.
(Of course, I'm mostly just speculating here... No idea what really dictates the age range on a site like this.)
