I've been playing Pokemon Black for a few days now and i have to say that this is the 1st game that I've played other then Final Fantasy X-2 that I've been ashamed to let other people know that I'm playing. Given that the graphics are great, game-play is solid, rival fights are frequent and challenging, and gym leaders leave you with a genuine feeling on accomplishment... does anyone else feel that this game is a bit GIRLY?? All of the NPCs in game describe their Pokemon as "cute", "adorable", there's a POKEMON DRESS UP mini-game which precedes a musical, and to top it off, I currently have a flying pink blob covered in purple flowers as my psychic powerhouse. Tell me what you guys think.

There have always been trainers that call their Pokemon cute. And, to be fair, they ARE cute.

Look me in the eyes and tell me that Minccino isn't stupidly adorable.

They look fine.
If you think that they suddenly got stupid/cute/anything else, you clearly haven't played Pokemon, because they have always been as stupid/cute/anything else as this. Anything else is just blind nostalgia.

It's been getting that way for a while now and honestly I ignore the contest parts of the game. It doesn't make that less fun, hell, even in the first generation there were adorable pokemon there.

I second this. And Munne too.

In Japan "cute" is something everyone wants to be. (and most can't)

While not manly there either, it doesn't carry the 12-YO girl connotation it does here.

Agreed. I defy you to dress up an Oshawott in a top hat, cane and, monocle and not exclaim a long, drawn-out 'Awwwwwwwwwwww'

Not all of the new Pokemon are cute. There's the trash bag Pokemon (or is it a giant Dustbunny?) Trubbish and, Grobador. The Lamprey Pokemon are pretty cool and, the final form of Oshawott (can't remember the name) is a freaking Kirin.

If any generation was over saturated with cute Pokemon it was the Gold/ Silver generation in which the baby forms were introduced (igglybuff, cleffa, pichu to name three) I think this generation is pretty balanced if a little lacking in the imagination department (just look at Tornadus, Thundrous and, Landorus)

Aren't they supposed to look kind of girly? I mean your supposed to catch this weak animal and train it up into a fucking God.

Take Nidoran for example, perfectly cute in its first form, but then it evolves into Nidorino and then the beast Nidoking. Obviously there are exceptions like rhyhorn (who's always ugly) or on the opposite end jigglypuff (who's always pink and cute).

P.S I haven't played anything past pokemon gold/silver so I've no clue if B/W changes this up and we're left with 3rd evolutions all resembling wigglytuff and clefable.

I do think that Pokemon has been leaning a bit too much on the overly cutesy side in recent games. We need more cool Pokemon: Put the MONster part back in Pokemon.

I think that anyone who is ashamed to play any game at all needs to really take a look at themselves in the mirror and come to terms with who they are, instead of being worried about what other people might think of them.

It's always been a little bit girly, from the first one to the most recent. The only reason people are probably noticing it more now is because the graphics have gotten quite a bit better making it easier to tell how "cute" the pokemon may be. I should have prefaced this little message with: I haven't played Pokemon Black/White yet so I can't comment on how much girlier this one may or may not be, however the trend has generally been to go girly.

Nah, I don't think it's that girly. I mean, there are cute-ish pokemon, but there've always been cute-ish pokemon, and some of them are quite good among the "hardcore" crowd (Chansey springs to mind.)

The musical, on the other hand, is rather girly. It's also completely pointless in my book. Dress your Poke in various props and watch a little cutscene. The pokemon that does the best gets... more props. Yeesh.

Meh, Pokemon is just Pokemon. Girly? Nah.

Everyone knows I play Pokemon a LOT, and we have a laugh about it. Chill d3wd;D.

Blissey is a HOE in wifi battles. Oh. My. God.

Also, I find something horrendously hilarious about making my Pokemon look idiotic.
End of the day...would a girl really enjoy that though? Hmm.

i agree 100% that's what i was getting at when i wrote this. Sure, they've always been "cute". but from what I've played so far, we are lacking some bad-assery.

Yeah. Those other games like Gold and Silver with their overly small and fresh baby form Pokemon! That's so recent! Fourth gen I'll give you. Those would be top two, imo.
This generation has been pretty good with keeping cute at a balanced minimum. I've heard far more complaints about a lot of them looking like Digimon rather than cuteness.

You obviously haven't played the game fully yet.

Emboar, Unfezeant, Boldore/Gigalith, Exadrill, Gurdurr/Conkledurr, Palpitoad/Seismitoad, Throah, Sawk, Venipede line, Basculin, Krookodile, Scrafty, Siliglyph, Cofarigus and many more are badass.

And it's not like gen 1 didn't have dozens of adorable lines:

Pikachu line, Clefairy and Jigglypuff line, Sandshrew line, Vulpix line, Diglett line, Ponyta and Seel line, Chansey, Goldeen line.

I'm sure I could name many more. Like how they seem to have needed to clone that electric rat in every game. (Marill, Plusle + Minun, Pichu, Nimonga, Pachisaru. I think I'm missing one too)

Seriously. Give the new ones a chance. You know from the old games that if a critter is cute at first it'll probably turn into a lethal mean killing machine later down the line. And if not. Just rush through the game, beat the E4 and then you can import your Alakazams and Tyranitars into the game anyways.

Hey, I like girly. <.<

Never, be afraid to unleash your feminine side. :p

But, I have not played Black or White so I do not know. :/

Real men are girly badasses. :p

Its about animals in anime style. Talk about just dogs. Most people will talk about how cute they are. But there are scary ones too. Hell, if pokemon were real, only reason I would fight with them, is just to get more pet/friends.

There's not an option to say that we believe that this generation is inferior to the others :(
I don't care though; I'm still getting it :D
