If it's forced no-killing stealth, that.

Otherwise, I can never enjoy escort missions...

The ONLY game that has escort missions that are not too awful is Just Cause 2. Still sucks, but it is the best of the worst.

As much as I hate escort missions I can't stand being the badass action hero for so long only to be suddenly told if one guy sees me I can't do anything against him and his friends. It rarely makes any sense in the context of the game and it never makes any more sense after it's completed. The worst ones force stealth and then at some arbitrary point allow for normal gameplay to return. If things could randomly go back to normal than why even bother with trying to be sneaky? Running away or just killing everything within a mile radius are still valid options that forced stealth shouldn't rob a person of.

Saints Row has pretty decent escort missions, as it uses escort it two ways ;)

I just replayed Crysis and experienced again that bit where you escort that fellow when he is chilly.

Even in my favourite game, with the kind of AI that you could get in the soldiers you get to chew on the faces of, I was so ridiculously frustrated with said chilly fellow (deliberate non spoiler) that I spent a couple of minutes making sure he died.

ESCORT! If you want to reveal the flaws of your AI, create an escort mission. But don't leave the mission in the final game! Escort missions should be an alpha- and beta-testing tool, nothing more.

Escorts. I can deal with losing my weapons during a cutscene and carefully walking along. I like stealth. But fuck escort missions.

They'd be okay if the NPC would just freaking WALK. In Ass' Creed 2 I run ahead, wait for five minutes, then run ahead. It's ridiculous how slow they go.

Stealth in first person shooters is a PAIN. Examples I've actually played: the training missions in Deus Ex and Soldier of Fortune 2. At least 'Looks like you've been spotted, John.' is a much nicer reminder than getting 'YOU SUCK AT LIFE!!!' yelled at me in a Russian accent.

Curse you escort missions.

I was doing nothing but enjoying Far Cry 3 until I run across this suicidal NPC in a striped shirt who not only runs directly toward the enemies, but through a mine-field as well. If I hang back and play sniper, he gets over-whelmed. If I move too far from him, I step on a mine and blow him up.

Then later on, I had to protect the guy who sent me on that mission as he proved to be utterly worthless in a fight.

The problem with escort missions is they usually force you to play in a very aggressive manner just to protect your idiotic charge. Saints Row 2 had that freakin' timed escort mission where you had to roll a guy through a hospital and defend him from assassins, which is double the evil.

The only escort missions I've thought were well down were the ones where you had to carry someone, which allowed you to drop them into an easily defended position. It at least allows me to play in something resembling my style of play instead of being forced to triple-time.

I hate escorts the most, but I will admit that the worst part of Ocarina of Time was the forced stealth section before the desert temple. Never again, Nintendo. Never again.

Escorts because how those go is decided by the AI, at least if I mess up a stealth mission it's because I personally made a mistake, not the character that absolutely has to survive walked into a horde of zombies and stood there getting mauled to death (damn you Dead Rising series)
