I'm currently listening to 'Nightcore' apparently, because that's what's in the thread description. Not a fan.

I tend to listen to music that is either very mellow or very aggressive, with little inbetween. In essence; anything from Brian Eno to Spawn of Possession, but not a whole lot inbetween.
Also, unless the Escapist recently changed their rules on forum membership, you may find yourself banned for a couple of months shortly!

I'm primarily into post-hardcore and progressive rock/metal, with smatterings in electro-core and metalcore, but the only genre I don't particularly like is country.

This one I like more for the clean chorus than anything else.

A special bonus - ambient instrumentals and game soundtracks.

Been listening pretty much exclusivly to thrash metal and Swedish trallpunk for the past couple of years.

Skip ahead 35 seconds or so to get away from the intro.

I trust most of you know what thrash metal is.

thats all Tehcno right? XD

but seriously do you cringe when people refer to anything electronic as "techno"? somone here (whom I have nothing against personally) didn't know the difference between house/techno and dubstep...using dubstep as a blanket term for EDM

I felt my inner music hipster cry out in anguish

I listen to a bit of everything, mainly rock and metal though... and my selection of rock and roll is the largest of all my playlist, so I voted that... I like old classics, and newer stuff, so long as the beat is good, the instrumentation is felt, and the lyrics ring right in my ears, it's all good.

song I've been listening to on repeat for a few hours:

Of the poll options, my "current genre" is metal of various types, though mostly death metal and derivatives thereof. Only because the majority of the music I own is that.

However, I think that "my" genre of music is electroswing. There's just something about it that... speaks to me, I guess. To put it melodramatically, electroswing is the music playing in my soul.
[sub]Seriously. Just... just listen to that sonic gold.[/sub]

Not really a specific genre, since varies from every genre. Basically every style has something I might like. Cheap I know but I really don't like to say I have a favorite brand because I might like something completely different the next day.

Techno is actually a genre (and should have been in there). Calling most of the genres above EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is more appropriate.

Although there is a lot of genres in there that aren't EDM. If you look closely, i listed R&B, Hip-Hop and Rap, as well as Heavy Metal (and i should prob also have listed Power Metal or Symphonic Metal).

Mainstream Pop-music isn't necessarily EDM either.

Oh and as for Techno as a genre, here is an example )

I know...I was joking/trolling

my point was I can't stand it when people refer to all eletronic as "techno" and was wondering if (as a DJ) you felt the same

though to be fair I'm not 100% on the genres myself.... I do have some familiairty from browsing beatport alot (based on their catagories of coarse)

I've been listening to a lot of Technical Death Metal and Grindcore lately.
Some of my favourite examples at the moment include.
Probably one of the largest metal bands to come out of Australia even if they are Tasmanian.

Probably my favourite band about Egyptian mythology.

Quite possibly the best technical death band in my opinion.

Saw them live a couple of weeks ago with Psycrotpic in Melbourne.

The band that pretty much created grindcore.

Probably one of my favourite albums this year.

Experimental is always a good way to go in my opinion. Ive been listening to a lot of Battles lately who I've liked for a while. And you can't go wrong with Black Moth Super Rainbow, too good.

I have had an epic migraine all day so I am listing to some soft, relaxing music.

If I were to classify it in a genre it would probably be under classical I guess...

Techno is a genre that arose in Detroit during the 80's. It draws heavy influences from both electro and African percussion music. It's very rhythm-centric, and can be described as cold, mechanic and from time to time, even atonal.

House appeared in Chicago at around the same time, and can be described as the second wave disco music, as it came around almost directly after disco was declared dead. Aside from disco, house music also draws influences from jazz and dub reggae. It can be described as organic, melodic and funk-centric.

BTW, Athinira, do you have any set I can listen to?

Been listening a lot to FLOW recently, so J-Rock I guess? I tend to go through phases where I'll only listen to a certain genre or band, and then drop them completely for something else for a while.

As I stated in the title I want to know the Escapist's music genre of choice.
You kind of missed two of the Major branches of music:
Classical
Electronic.

Seriously that is a huge amount content. more than Rock. A lot more.

Anyway at the moment mine would be industrial (and sub-genres).
the reason I hate giving examples sometimes... you can never leave it at one.
