Blue will always be my favourite because it was my first but I think Gold/Silver are the best because they improve upon every aspect of Red/Blue, adding a good number of interesting new Pokémon but the novelty hasn't worn off and they've not gone overboard with any part of it. Those games are perfect

5th Gen.

Second would be platinum. I'm of the opinion that the games have gotten better with time.

Red/Blue/Yellow, Saphire was the first I played but the first generation of pokemon is just so much better.

Gold/Silver I loved and I don't know how many times I've replayed them. I know I can't save on Crystal anymore, I'm thinking the game is trying to tell me something.

Emerald is a very close second, love that game to bits!

I will always fondly remember Red And Blue for the music, the creative and memorable original pokemon, missingno, and never getting to join Team Rocket on Nugget Bridge because the never gave me the option to say yes. However, I love Black and White for all the innovations, the "3D", and the plot. If the remade Red and Blue in the Black and White style, I'd only play that one forever. Having said that, they need to make a Pokemon Stadium in the style of SSB. Id play the hell out of that game.

Gold and Silver because of its major improvements compare to Red and Blue (night and day function with the clock aswell, special event on certaindays and returnng to Kanto afting beating the elite 4).

Pretty close for me between Gold/Silver and R/B/Y. I think Yellow is my all-time favorite, simply because it was an improved version of R/B and that was when I was most interested in Pokemon. I must have played Yellow for 2000 hours when I was 11-13. Great game.

Gold/Silver were definitely the best games in the series though.

I'm torn between Gold/HeartGold or Platinum. I loved Platinum, great play value after the elite four, and it was the first Pokemon game I ever got a level 100 in, but Gold was the first video game I ever played, so it has some major nostalga love, as well as a secondary 8 leaders.

I agree, Gold/Silver and Heartgold/Soulsilver take the cake.

I would've said B/W but a lot of the new pokemon seemed like they were copy/pasted and some of the pokemon just seemed like garbage (see: Garbador for lulz). Plus, I didn't like how underused double/triple battling was despite the player getting ambushed at least a million times.

I'm hoping the 6th gen (if Nintendo is willing to keep recreating--never mind...) actually makes full use of the 3D--in battles and everything.

I am a total fangirl for 1st generation, so R/B/Y ftw. (Don't even get me started on how ridiculous the new generations have become.)
