Alien was awesome, Aliens slightly better. Started to go downhill from there fast. Alien 3 was still enjoyable, but Resurrection was horrible and don't get me started about AvP...
Aliens is by far the most watchable. It's entertaining from start to finish. That's what James Cameron's real talent is, consistent entertainment. The first one is the "best" movie, but I find I get bored with repeated viewings. Still great, but I have to be in the mood to watch it. Alien 3 had some neat characters and a great ending, but the middle was very blah. Plus, it was just a re-do of the first in many ways. Resurrection broke the feel too much. Wrong choice for director (still a great director) and some terrible casting decisions(but they're still great actors). It was goofy. AvP felt like Predator 2 meets Resident Evil (probably because RE and AvP had the same director). It wasn't great, I enjoyed it, but will never watch it again. I understand people who don't like it. I haven't been able to complete watch AvP 2, so that sums up my feelings on it.
Aliens was really the best one. Alien was good, it was a good start to the franchise, but aliens gave the audience what it wanted, the best of the aliens vs the best of the humans and their technology. And to be kinda honest, the series should have stopped there. Never saw any of the predator movies though, i wonder if maybe they are less cringe-worthy than Aliens Resurrection was.
I still say the horror went out the window when they started mass-producing the Aliens in the second movie. They also die really, really easy for what are supposed to be the best natural predators in the universe.
The original Alien is probably my favorite, but I did enjoy parts of Alien 3 a lot. Aliens isn't bad, but I feel like popular culture has kind of ruined it for me.

The original Predator is a great movie. I'd probably say I enjoy it more than any of the Alien films.Soushi said:

I have deliberated over this at length in the past, and I came to the conclusion that the first one is the best.
Unburdened by its sequels, it's one of the greatest and tightest horror movies ever made, the creature is as scary as it is grotesque, the cast are brilliant, the visual design, as one of the first space movies where everything was grungy and filthy and people were real people was fantastic.
The second film is also good, when you acknowledge its roots as a Vietnam movie, but the first pips it just.
Alien 3 was broken, it could have been really good if Fincher had been able to stick to his guns and the studio had been more hands off, but it wasn't.
Anyone who thinks there were more than three Alien movies is a liar and an idiot. You'll be telling me they made sequels to Highlander next.

Gotta give respect to the original, nothing is quite the same after you've seen a chestburster... burst out of someone's chest.
