New Vegas easily. 1&2 were immersive and very different then anything I'd ever played at the time, but the combat was a pain in the ass.

Fallout 3; hands down. I would say New Vegas but it doesn't appeal to me for somereason. I know it to be fact because of the simple reason there is a new DLC out for it and I'm thinking not to get it (I usually Rush to get these things)

Fallout 3 for me. The sheer amount of possible exploration and atmosphere was very impressive.

Fallout New Vegas lacked a lot of exploration possibilities for me. Until I installed a few mods the world just felt way too empty for me.

Old World Blues is actually much closer to Fallout 3 than anything else in New Vegas. I was really happy with the amount of secret places to explore - not to mention it's laugh out loud hilarious with by far the best loot and story in a Fallout DLC.

although Fallout: New Vegas is built on the same engine as Fallout 3, the story is more immersive. The characterisation is less personal and restircted in New Vegas having you be a "courier" and that opens you to a whole list of possibilities

Fallout 1 is pretty dark, it has the best feel of a post-apocaliptic world. Everything is destroyed, people struggle etc. First visit in Junktown is like the total feel of the Fallout universe. Also some levels are realy realy grim, like The Glow, and the history behind it. It's realy a great RPG.

Fallout 2 is my fav i think. Lost some of the destruction feel, couse everything is almost rebuild. Bah, some places look like they werent even struck by the bombs. But it's realy realy realy good. Has some realy awesome characters (Marcus, Harold, etc.)

Fallout 3. Dont know why people hate on this game. It was brill. When i wished that they would make a 3D fallout back in those days, this would be that game.

Fallout: NV. Dont know yet, still playing. 30 hrs in, and tons left to do. What i dont like? Mojave feels realy empty. :/

Fallout Tactics is a gem. OK, its not an RPG realy like the old ones, but have the feel of Fallout so its totaly worth getting.

Oh damnit, I accidentally reported your post, Elmoth. Was gonna vote for Fallout 3, and then my browser jumped down to your post... Sorry man.

Also, Fallout: New Vegas was umplayable. Worst 60 dollars spent ever.

Tie between 2 and New Vegas for me. 3 is an awesome game, as long as you stay far, far away from the main quest. Fallout 1 is a classic but it's rather short and lacking in content in comparison to 2.

New Vegas I love that game. Fallout 1 is a close second. Fallout 3 and Tactics are really good but not on the same level. My copy of Fallout 2 doesn't work so I haven't played it. Never played Brotherhood of Steel and I never want to play it.

I've only played 3 and NV, and going by my reaction to NV (it was shit), I've decided not to try the older ones because NV was more of a "true" sequel and 3 was.

What about Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (not tactics)? Not that I would vote for it (I vote for Fallout 2) but it should at least be mentioned.

As far tactics go, I liked it, it was less character driven then all the other games but I had my fun with it. Have you ever played Jagged Alliance? It's quite similar to it IMO.

And for the series, I don't mind the gameplay changes, I played the series mainly for its setting.

Can't really rank them, can only say that I liked NV and 2 a little bit more than the rest.

Really? I got the feeling that it's much more "lively" that its predecessors, thanks to the frequent non-important mini-locations like abandoned shacks/gas-stations and fights between patrols.

But I guess since it's still the Mojave Desert you can't expect much in the first place :)

I would have voted for 3, but that probably wouldn't have been fair because I haven't played the first two or Tactics. I might pick up one and two sometime, but if I'm honest it's gonna be hard enough keeping up with all the other games I want this year (and they all seem to be coming out in Autumn as well :/).

Fallout 3 is THE worst Fallout game I've ever had the displeasure of playing (Haven't played the fabled Fallout: BoS mind you). Anyone who tries to make a solid argument as to why Fallout 3 is even a remotely good Fallout game should throw themselves off a bridge.

The best Fallout game? It's a tough one but I'm gonna go with Fallout 2.

Brotherhood of Steel!
...
*from the sound of being brutally attacked by fallout fans* I'm kidding! I'm sorry for mentioning the Unmentionable game!

I haven't played any other game other than FO3 and NV, because I don't like TBC, so I'm going to say FO3, but not vote as to not scew the results.

Fallout 2 for expanding on already epic world, and adding a crapload more fun locations/quests/possibilities...
