IX.

It was the first FF game I ever owned. I grew up with it and fell for the quirky characters, the storyline, the strange fantasy world and the beautiful soundtrack. I can play it multiple times and never seem to grow bored of it, truly one of the classics in my book.
I'm really pleasantly surprised by the love for IX; I always thought it was unappreciated by most gaming/FF fans. And you're absolutely right, the soundtrack is really beautiful -- especially the Piano Collection versions.

VI.

Excellent score, phenomenal (and three-dimensional) cast of characters, and a villain who is a legitimate, yet intriguing threat. It encompasses the charm, determination, and sheer heart that is hard to find in games today, and Final Fantasy VI has it in spades.

The series' send-off to the SNES may be gone, but it is far from forgotten.

This. I loved that game so much. It was the last FF game that I enjoyed if I'm being honest. It just kinda lost something for me when the characters stopped looking like armored marshmallows. Ah Kefka, you sweet psychotic bastard you.

So it's a simple question. which final fantasy is your favourite?
while I'm well aware there have been several of these I still wanted to ask again since Final Fantasy is my favourite gaming series of all time and I can't decide which I like most.
So get voting!
Give reasons if you want to or don't, if you've got more pressing matters, or you're just plain boring.
All the usual no flaming etc, etc
and... where's 8?

Final Fantasy IX. It has great characters, great story and great music. Can't find a single wrong thing about it.

9, followed closely by 8.
8 was the first one I ever played, one of the first games I had ever gotten on my ps1, and I loved it, but only recently beat it for the first time.

9 was the first Final Fantasy I had ever beaten, and I've played it through quite a few times.

I also enjoyed 6, 7, 10, and 13

Does the soundtrack to Crisis Core count?

*sigh* well, I hate jRPGs, including just about everything in the FF series, so I'll go with the only one I was ever able to finish playing: VI (or III to some). Strong characterization, a battle system sophisticated and clever enough that it almost made me forget it was turn-based, and a central concept that didn't require an entire afternoon to wade through.

I like most of the Final Fantasy games, but I'll always have a special connection with X. It was the first PS2 game I ever owned, and the first true Final Fantasy game I played legitimately, and the one that really got me hooked on the whole series. Yeah, the voice acting could have been better, but it did so many other things right: a totally redesigned battle system, character leveling that took the best of both the VII and IX models, a minigame that was actually worth playing, and a heartfelt story told by interesting characters.

Runner up would be the first 2/3rds of VI, with it's awesome musical score and colourful cast. It's really too bad that it crapped all over itself in the third act. After that, I have some good memories of IV, and VII is still very slick if you can get past the (very) dated graphics.

I know, right? Whenever I said my favorite FF was IX people would just kind of stare at me. It's like.. uhh.. awkward much? Sorry, there are things better than VII out there. (That would be why 9 is second in the poll.) I always thought IX was the last memorable FF game and I say memorable because while X was good, I wasn't able to truly get as into it as I was the older games.

As a fellow adorer of IX, I must agree. The one thing off the top of my head I can think of that was an issue (and probably the only issue) was that random as all hell boss at the tail end. There was no mention of Nercon at ALL through the whole game, the final boss should have been Trance Kuja but considering that random as all hell boss seemed to be a trend in games back then I suppose it fits in there somehow XD.

I'm actually really adoring FF XIII right now. I like all the characters, even Vanille with her ever changing accent, and the battle system is wonderful. Its like they took what made FFX-2's battle system great and put it in a game that didn't make your dick fall off in shame.

VII, closely followed by X, then VIII.
Probably because it was literally the first game i played, even before pokemon and crash bandicoot. Took me long enough to figure out how to actually play it, and when i did i couldn't put it down, which isn't a good thing for a 6 year old.. Pure obsession though, and still standing as the greatest game i've ever played. The other installments are pretty sweet as well, played the first one a few months back and by god it is old school..

Whichever one turns out to be the last one they make, because then that awful game series can finally fucking die...

Mine was X, until I played IX again recently on PSN and was reminded just how awesome it is.
