Poll: What's your favourite type of gun and why?

I love me a good SMG, either the Thompson, the Grease Gun, or the MP40. For more modern ones, the MP5K is awesome, the Kriss Vector, the MAC-10.

IRL, My favorites gotta be the Assault Rifle. so versatile, with my G3 being my favorite that I've shot, out of that, an AK47, and a M4. but pistols come in a close second because my Colt 1903 pistol is super fun too,

Marksman rifles. Especially bolt action. I don't know why but I love the feel of loading the next round manually or with a cocking mechanism.
Also, ARs. They are just so useful in enough situation. I like high accuracy mixed with high fire rate.
In close quarters, I go for a P90 or, if it's COD4, a suppressed golden mini uzi. They are just like puppies.

Years of Metal Gear Solid compel me to say the revolver. Specifically, the Colt Single Action Army.

Real men use their fists, though.

Sorta like the Owen Gun, in that it was made in large quantities as a standard issue weapon, but remains unknown to pop culture. Also very reliable and all, and has the magazine on top.

Also has the advantage that the next "X people shot by gunman in Y" thread won't involve an Owen gun...it'd be awkward to be claiming it's awesome to shoot people with an M16, and that it's terrible that people got shot with an M16 at the same time.

Handgun is everywhere, treated with no especial aggro, and usually fires off fast enough to make a difference when you can run; also, it's hitscan.
In Serious Sam, you can dual-wield, they have unlimited ammo, and they work as accurately and as fast as you could want. In most FPS, the handgun can carry the day when everyone else is still trying to unjam, reload, or jump clear of their own stupid grenades.

Semi-Automatic Rifles all the way... Only because out of all the gun's I have tried, they are the ones I was best at using, and for long periods of time! There are a couple of semi-auto sharpshooter rifles that are pretty awesome!

And automatic weapons are pretty much just for scaring, and keeping your oponants head down, they are far to innaccurate for practical use!

I love the sound, the recoil and the reload. Just so COOL! And, if that was not enough, add a red-dot sight and you're set for long distance domination.

I always seem to gravitate towards multi-barreled machine guns of mass murder. I love the sound they make,and they do a damn good job at killing ground troops and shredding aircraft,when they make an appearance (Stinger minigun from UT3 is AMAZING for dropping jets when an AVRiL is unavailable)

I always have been and forever will be, a fan of artillery in all shapes and forms. There's something to be said about mathematicians and computer technicians being able to hit the enemy with a gun from miles away.

Hey, if you consider a 'rocket launcher' to be a 'gun', then I can pick artillery. It comes it flavors from old-world cannons to battleship cannons to ICBMs to Orbital Ion Cannons. Delicious.

In the real world I stand by my edict that "guns are for sissies".

Swords are where it's at. Their my favourite 'gun'. Many different types to choose from, and you get right up close and personal, like a true man.

Guns are what made the middle class and took down the cronyistic monarchies. Guns are what toppled the samurai and knights and gave way to industrialization and the working class.

Before guns, the "warrior" caste/class were the specialists that dedicated their lives to policing those below them. When guns became commonplace, suddenly a peasant with a musket was a true threat on the battlefield. The English and the Mongolians had the right idea with the bow; they toppled millions of sword-wielding "up close and personal" men during that time.

Indiana Jones had the right idea.

I really don't like using guns in real life; if I would handle a gun in real life, my ears would feel like they would be bleeding thanks to a bloody congenital disorder. I'm more of a knife person.

I would go apeshit over a good handgun in a videogame, though. Bitches love handguns.

Revolvers, and not particularly overpowered magnum shooters either, but those which balance power, accuracy, and rate of fire to provide a simple, yet elegant weapon which does everything it's expected to do.

Aren't pistols notoriously inaccurate though?

I used to be a shotgun person, but then light machine guns captured my heart. Or pierced it, I guess.

Bolt-actions have a very satisfying feel when working the bolt and shotguns have the same with the pumb or break open. However, my favorite is the machine gun. I used a BAR when I was visiting someone in Arizona and OMG that was unbelievably fun to shoot. Sub-machine guns and assault rifles are close behind though.

edit: Automatics have an appeal to me, partly because I live in a state where I can't have one and because of the sensations of firing one(the rapid fire rate, taming the recoil, trigger control, the casings hitting the ground one after another, and the concussive force hitting you after each shot).

I tend to like semi-auto/3-round burst assault rifles with high accuracy. I like killing 'em from a distance but I like to keep my peripheral vision that you lose with a scope. Unless it's real life. Then I prefer scoped rifles.

Though I do love blowing off entire limbs with shotguns, just like every other red-blooded American guero out there. Especially when you feel bold taking down that last enemy in a wave and you sprint up to them and hit them point blank in the head.

Submachine guns and shotguns are my bread and butter in any FPS. I'd say shotguns were better but because every game seems intent on making them absolute shit I stick with the SMGs. I can't say I know why but I always prefer them over the Assault Rifles.
