Deathclaws in Fallout 3 can be pretty annoying, especially if you don't use the Dart Gun, since they can close the distance on you faster than you can take them out, and if you get corned by 2 or 3 of them you might as well reload and save some time.
Definitely but i would also have to add the super mutant behemoths.

The Robot on the moon in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (SNES). After you kill the damn thing it revives itself with full health. *****!

I'm glad someone mentioned System Shock 2's nurses. Kinda made me think of Silent Hill's nurses, but SS2's were better. Hell, the damn monkeys were scary too, that whole damn game was, pretty much everything had you shooting at shadows, but those damn nurses were tough and with SS2 being a true survival game and ammo being scarce, they were a real threat. At least with big daddies you can infinitely respawn, there's plenty of ammo and EVE, not to mention it only takes the tiniest amount of care to not set them off. You can chose to engage them only when you're ready, so they're hardly 'oh shi-' moment worthy.

However, Bioshock does have my winner- the plaster spider splicers. Fort Frolic is full of plastered corpses posed in macabre dioramas so they blend in perfectly, happy to pause and imitate the common statues. Some of those motionless, indestructible dioramas on your way into a room may come alive as a nasty collection of plaster splicers when you return, and all of it performed in the eeriest of silences. Sure, they're not the toughest enemy ever, but they creep they hell out of me and have one of the best weapons on their side- surprise.

I Wanna be the Guy's Moon. Freaking evil.
I have bested fruit, spike, and moon! (and frankly the fruit was the worst to me. Every time I walked into a room with fruit in it, I was all, F this, and I went the other way).
Heh, when the moon first attacked me it scared the crap out of me. The fruit was also pretty brutal.

While I admit it does cheapen the action with the vita chambers, when you really need Adam and you see a Big Daddy and a little sister walk up there is an "O shit" moment right before you engage, it's kind of like, "well here goes nothing" and then the giant beast fixes a glowing red eye on you and charges with a small girl encouraging him

Why is the Big Daddy even an option? I didn't die once playing through Bioshock. I took out all of the Big Daddies. You can beat them on hard, with the wrench, without dying FFS.
The toughest enemy I've met in a game is probably the final boss of Halo 2 on legendary. I've beat him once... just once, and I'm really good at shooters.
I've beaten him a bunch by getting the banshee inside the chamber, which is still insanely difficult since the Brutes that come in can chuck plasma grenades with god-like accuracy

Oh and how the heck did you get through bioshock without dying?, you lose health incredibly quick, and if you aren't on your toes your being revived before you know it

Yeah, I've done like that to, but that's a little like cheating... well, not exactly but...

The only other way I did it was getting up on the platform above where he stays and shooting down at him with plasma rifles whenever his shield goes down.

Metroids. Walking into a room and hearing that very particular sound they make gives me the creeps. Also: Mirelurks from Fallout 3, they can get pretty nasty, especially early in the game cause once you start building up they loose steam a bit.

I would have to say the big daddys from bioshock, It's really terrifying to hear their footsteps and not know where they'r comming from while playing bye yourself, with all the lights turned out, at 3am.
Yeah but they don't outright attack you, I even got the big daddy protector plasmid. And had one following me around mowing people down.
Personally my most hardcore enemy is any for of zombie or nazi, and even the scarier Nazi zombie.

Big Daddys all the way. Those guys get pretty hard to kill on the harder difficulties.

Yea they're just scary. They never start the fight and are easy to kill even on the hardest difficulty. You can safely take many pictures of them! How mean and tough can they be if they might as well pose for the camera and wait for you to take a picture?
