Poll: What's your opinion on hipsters

Hmm. Well I was at the other hipster thread (Oh didn't, see it? It must be so elusive. Like that one band.) and I noticed many people hating on hipsters. Oh well. Haters gun hate. I was just wondering why. What don't you like about hipsters? Their snobbiness? Their fashion?

At the High School where I go to, you're either a hipster, an LG, a super happy azn grl!, an asshat douchebag tool, white trash, or a loser. There are some who don't fill in those areas ... but there aren't many. It doesn't sound pretty but it's true.


Let me just remind you all that everyone in Scott Pilgrim can be classified as a hipster.

I fucking love Scott.


EDIT : It seems most of you are hating on the avant-garde elitist-hipster type. I know some of those, they piss me off too. The kind who think they're better than you? The ones that wear the freaky clothing? Uhhhh, yeah. Not all hipsters are like that. Now that I think of it, is indie a subset of hipster? Hmm. I don't know if you know, but where I live (Vancouver) it's preeeeeetty indie. INDIE KIDS, INDIE KIDS EVERYWHERE. S'not bad though! Most are really nice, in fact, I think I'm one too. /ramble

The amount of people that I've met that have used the sentence "Its too main stream for me" just pisses me off.

How popular something is doesn't justify whether or not one should like it.

A LOT of people hate Justin Bieber for Justin Bieber, I just don't like his music, got nothing against the kid, he did what most of us never will be able to.

I feel that 'Gaming hipsters' are appearing now. Every game isn't good enough. I know people that won't play a game if its main stream and I know people that won't play a game because the graphics aren't great. Then there are those...most...that pick on one floor and then won't play the game. Yahtzee...love his stuff but I take none of it too heart. His criticism doesn't help especially when nothing is good enough for him (except Portal, Silent Hill...you know, the 5 he likes) when games, in reality, are awesome these days and 13 years ago, when I first got my PS1 I never dreamed of games being that good.

Everyone's a critic.

Wanna know why games from the 90's and 80's were so damn great? PEOPLE WERE HAPPY WITH WHAT THEY WERE GIVEN!

Well Wikipedia refers to them as teenagers/youg adults that like Indie Rock...So they're essentially indie kids that thought indie got too popular and named themselves hipsters...which all the indie kids have done...God...Idiots.

I just see a hipster as a communist (I've spoken to those people handing out communist fliers at Uni, they all claim to be hipsters) and anyone with one of those 'I don't do it because I'm not a sheep' attitudes.

I think of them the same way I think of every group you could come up with: mostly they're okay. Some of them are obnoxious and give the rest a bad name, but most of them are awesome. Then again, I have been described as a hipster, so take this with a heaping pile of salt.

I am strongly opposed to hipsters. They are the idiots alternative.

Not for anything they do in particular, but for being devoted to a fashion and a sensibility that makes absolutely no fucking sense. I don't like anyone who exclusively likes things that no-one has ever heard of, but when you add to that the fact that almost everything they like isn't just indie and underground and up and coming, but is actually actively bad and not heard of because its actually impossible to like, it becomes something hideous.

Its the same with their fashion sense, or lack there of. I get that teenagers want to be rebellious and different and all that, and so you can forgive them if they end up looking stupid while they do it, but hipsters are all GROWN UPS. They can dress however they want with no-one really caring and yet they still decide to choose looking like you are mentally challenged but the nurse wasn't around to pick out your clothes. Seriously... always shorts, always retarded sunglasses, always a silly hat.

There is a certain subset of people who are 'cool', and the hipsters are basically the counter culture to that. Everything they do is meaningless and ironic, and basically designed to make them appear as stupid as possible. Counter culture is ok against your parents values and fashions, but when its countering something which is actually pretty ok is rediculous.

They may as well be wearing clown wigs for all the difference it makes. At least then they'd be clown chic instead of just retarded.

My problem with hipsters is that they think liking stuff ironically somehow makes them feel entitled and better than you. Plus they always say "I liked it way before it was popular" in the douchiest way possible

OT:I know people who look like hipsters but don't have the douche bag attitude. I go to an art college so I know they exist but don't know them. I don't have the patience for those type of people.
I know I dress like one. I know this because people have called me one. I don't mind looking like one, my friends know I am not a dickhead and that is good enough for me

I haaaate the hair. Specifically, the slanted, "looking-like-you're-standing-on-a-slope" hair cut. The attitude's the worst though. "I LIKED ______ BEFORE IT WAS POPULAR." Or, "I don't like them, they're too mainstream."

However, I've been told I have hipster taste and that flipped me off the deep end, schweetmotherofgod. I wear skinny jeans and I really like t-shirts with funny graphics on them.
