I have lost all faith in humanity so many times, it has fallen into the negative percentile now.

Religion as a whole, more specifically how they do not pay taxes like everyone else.
School, tis when you realize how many worthless adults will result from these children.
The Internet
X-Box Live, good god X-Box Live.

Honestly I never truely had any faith in humanity so I shall share some of my "When it all went to hell" moments.

- When I was I suppose ten or so my neighboor downstairs had just turned eighteen and was ecstatic. When asked why she replied, "Because now I can collect welfare!" ... even at ten I wanted to smack her. That was probably when it went into the negatives.

- When a woman sued McDonald's for spilling hot coffee on herself because she attempted to hold the cup between her legs in a car, and won a seven figure judgment that was later overturned to low six figures or some such.

- On McDee's again, two teenage girls filled a lawsuit claiming eating at McDonald's caused them to become obese; and the courting actually allowing it. Thank god they did not win.

- Paris Hilton has a TV show, people believe she can actually sing (hint: It isn't her voice and it still is awful) however nothing tops her newest show titled My New BBF (Best Friend Forever) Faith reached lows former not thought possible; I mean does dignity sell for that low these days?

Around about the time when people got together and told stories about losing their faith in humanity.

At the risk of sounding patronizing, grow up.
Hear hear.

The only reason I don't offer up sincere pity for the OP is because this whole thing is just some uninformed juvenile crap.

Go watch some more of your emo anime instead of making a thread next time you want to "keep it real".

Should I point out the irony of your avatar 'again', Mark?

Shortly after September 11th, 2001. Not so much the events of that day, just the government's reaction to it and the willingness of citizens to go along with it.

Hearing stuff like this doesn't help much either.

When I learnt that we are still killing the planet, even though we know full well what we are doing.

it started sometime in high school, but ultimately developed my socipathic tendencies while working mall security. sure, pathetic job, but its more of a mass babysitting job if anything. i realized that the entire city has a shared IQ of half a peanut, as they blatently disobey the law on repeated occasions, sometimes within 5 minutes after smacking them up-side the head.

and with the damned release of that f$#@ing flaming piece of s@^& movie MALL COP, i learned that smacking someone with a MAGLITE is considered assult...

close call here between hungry media and the useless governments. I went with the people disturbing you every second and any time of day just so that you'd throw pennies at them to leave you alone... then at some point it became illegal NOT to pay them to do this. Faith in humanity officially lost.

Shouldn't the title be "what made you lose your faith in humanity"?

The media is not a "when"...:p

I don't think I started with any.

And I have yet to gain any faith that can be lost.

Who knows, maybe someday I'll gain it.

And maybe someday I'll lose it.

But neither of those days are today.

What is this 'faith' you speak of?
I think he's referring to faith in the idea that humans are good and deserve to live. Or something like that.

Personally I think that humans (emphasis on fact it's a plural) aren't inherently good or bad but when you get people in a group the whole mob mentality thing tends to get's used to burn down Jews shops and stone people to death. Besides that I think it might be a good thing that most people need to be in a mob in order to do these things but then again that fact that people are so easily controlled is hardly a good sign.

I lost my faith in humanity around the time I realised we're more mindless than most animals
Most of our thought processes are auto-matic, from combat to eating and mating... We really don't know what we're doing.
Bullshit. What the hell makes us mindless? I can choose to do whatever I want to do, Is it an automatic reaction? Is it buggery. The fact that we can create things that don't particularly aid our survival proves that we're not mindless apes, but intelligent, sapient creatures. I can do whatever the hell I want to, and since when has all we do been fight, eat and sleep?

Face it. Humanity is the greatest species on the planet. We've proven our dominance time and again. I have faith in humanity. We're going to keep on innovating and our development is going to keep on happening. And no matter how many luddite hicks there are, there'll always be an Einstein, or a Tesla, or a Brunel. So yeah, I have plenty of faith in humanity left. Humans(and possibly termites) are the only species on the planet that gets shit done.

When i realised that the leaders of the government of my country consider themselves to be real christians who are looking after the interests of the people, even though inflation is officially around 300 000% (though independent estimates put it at over 1 million %), there are no longer any more functioning hospitals (leading to a massive and uncontrollable cholera outbreak), the collapse of the currency (so we now use US$), the education system, and most of the civil service. All the while these leaders, who have a high level of education, continue to blame the problems on a cobspiracy by the West, including a recent statement by one minister that the cholera was as a result of "biological warfare used by Britain."
Pardon my ignorance of the world any more than five paces from my front door, but what country are you from Double-O? I'm British and the biological warfare part intrigued me, I thought you were talking about the US until you mentioned currency.

Edit: On topic; I guess my answer of 'Media' is due to reality TV shows, particularly the ones that put couples in situations that encourage them to cheat on one another, though I hate all the rest too. Occasionally there are rays of light in the world that make me realise we can't just kill all humans, but it would be far more efficient than isolating and culling the ones who need it.

I had very low to begin with. I grew up in a very cynical family and what little i had has been destroyed by the media, school and interaction with 90% of the populous.

AMEN MY BROTHERS!!!

I lost my faith in humanity a long time ago - I just hate everyone and near enough everything that I don't need.

I suppose the fact that my best friends are racist and I'm the only one in the group that isn't British or Irish doesn't help and also the whole 9/11 made me pretty bitter even though I've only ever been to Florida :\ I just hate people

Institutions and forces are not "whens". Congratulations, original poster, you have further ravaged whatever little faith I have left.

In any case, I first lost it years ago; truly, perhaps four or five (around fifteen or sixteen). I blame the cumulative exposure to the world, because it reeks so much from all facets.

Right... Shall we get the story straight?
http://www.talkaboutcoffee.com/boiling_coffee_lawsuits.html is the link, but just for you I'll draw the main points out.

She did NOT get that money for attempting to hold the cup between her legs. MacDonalds gave her a cup of coffee that was 1) 5 degrees too hot and 2) the lid did not fit the cup (which IS a health and safety breach). She suffered burns that required skin grafts to fix, and she spent three weeks unable to walk, and THIS is what she got awarded the $2.9 million for. She originally was going to settle for $10,000, but McD's refused and so the judge upped the fine to the profits of McDonalds coffee for one day. She then settled for $89,000 in an out of court settlement.
So yeah... When did I lose my faith? Around the time when people began to leap to conclusions because "everyone knows it's true".
