Only when a good game comes out for a low price. Or if I see one that looks good in a store for a low price, but that doesn't happen too often.

Basically, Steam rocks. If you were not aware of this fact already perhaps I have swayed you somewhat :p
I actually never heard of Steam before, sounds interesting.
http://store.steampowered.com/

You can thank me later. :p

Be sure to download the software, its free and you can add friends and join them in game via the interface. Especially if you're into multiplayer games (L4D, Killing Floor.... TF2)

When it is the cheapest.

If I REALLY want a game, I preorder it from GAME and it comes either on the day of release or earlier by post. Problem solved. I even get bonus points (a discount off my next buy).

I wait a week or so for the reviews.
That's only if I really, really want it, though.

Usually I'll wait a few weeks or a couple months, even.
Doesn't it suck though to want a game really bad thinking it will be awesome, but then critics bash the hell out of it making you think "But it looks like such a fun game, and I've been planning for it's release but, everyone says it's shit. What to do?"

I mean you could go out and buy it anyway, but then IF the critics were right about it then you just wasted $50 or so. Kinda sucks yeah?

So you buy games that are somewhere around ten years old. Thats hardcore patience right there.

I don't ever run into long lines at Gamestop due to my taste in JRPGs, which never will get those kinds of lines. I just reserve my copy and come on the day that they tell me to, and hope that nobody messed with the shipping and delayed it or something. (I'm looking at you, Phantom Brave Wii...)

Eh, on very rare occasions (Like WoW expansion releases) I will go the day of it's release... NEVER for midnight releases..

When i was younger i used to hassle EBGames all the time, dialing them up on a daily basis and asking "is such and such game in yet? because online it said it was supposed to ship 2 days ago..." and i would go in and pick it up the second they said they had it.

However, as i've gotten older i've developed alot of patience. Most games nowadays i can wait till they can be picked up second-hand for at least half-price, if i pick them up at all.

I fear that my love of gaming is starting to fade.

I like to try to wait untill I can get actual feed back on it from, reliable sources and not hypersters, before I get it. That is unless I am sure that I will enjoy it no matter what, then I pre-order it.

Also jacobschndr, where is the poll?

I usually pre-order my 2 favourite games, Football Manager and Pro Evolution Soccer, and get them on release day every year, it's become a tradition for me. With other games it depends how much I want the game really. Sometimes if a game looks quite good and I have the money then I'll get it on release (most recently did this with Arkham Asylum and The Beatles Rock Band) if not I'll wait for it to come down in price or get it for Christmas/birthday depending if I want other games more or not.

With some games I just have to get them pre-ordered for release, will be doing that for Final Fantasy XIII, Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 but for games like FIFA10 and Alan Wake that I'm interested in but not massively looking forward to I can wait a few months or so for them to drop in price.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who can wait and actually do things with their life instead of sitting outside waiting for a game or movie for hours... If a game looks good, I buy it whenever I have enough money, or what to, or whatever... Quake Wars was the only game I bought the day it came out, kind of a let down... Killing Floor was the only game I ever preordered (only because it was cheaper to preorder then to buy when it came out)... I bought FEAR 2, Dissidia, and other games close to their release date, but I will never camp outside for a game...

i usually just go one the weekend after a game's release. On the weekdays i am usually pretty busy and even if i get the game, i know i won't have a great deal of time to play it until the weekend.
