This actually brings up an intresting point that the FF series is complained about by people who have either played 1 or none. Because they aren't Sequels in the sense they are related to each other at all. They are games with their own worlds, plots, characters, myth etc. They could easilly come up with a new name every game and it would still be the same thing, Final Fantasy just makes damn sure it brings in the customers.

True, there is no continuity in the games (Barring FF X-2) but there are some common themes.


1) The Inclusion of Chocobos
2) Greater SOruces of Power that can be summoned or tapped into for Aid, may or may not bear similar names
3) Token Cid character, usually in a position regarding Technology or piloting.
4) Re-occurence of certain Spells (Fire1-->Fire2--->Fire3, or Fire->Fira->Firaga->Firaja/Firagun)
5) An Anthropomorphic race.

I think this series will stop at around the same time Nintendo comes up with replacements for Mario, Metroid and Zelda, Microsoft gets their act together and deletes the blue screen (and red ring) of death once and for all, Peter Molyneux wakes up from his insane dream of Milo being the next gaming revolution and Egosoft makes a decent space flight sim for once!
