Both my cars are barebone and good driving cars. I own a 1984 Chevette 4-door hatch as a project car (planning a 4-cylinder Ecotec swap), and a 1998 Civic 2-door hatch for my daily driving. I had a 1991 Integra, but totaled it.

Depends on budget. Some cars like MX5s and Elises are best sampled as basic a possible, after all they are all about weight, or lack of.

Most new cars are bland and joyless, and really not worth the huge cost of depreciation. If you just want A to B transport go second hand.

If there is a car you want so badly it hurts go for it, and hit the options list as hard as your budget allows.

Lower model: higher trim package (more features).

Like my car:

Leather interior, Sync voice-activated media computer, bluetooth integration, power moonroof, A/C, heated seats, the works.

Not the most powerful car, but it is fun, drives well, and is feature rich way beyond other cars with a comparable pricetag.

Go for the lower model, but fully loaded like my parents did when they first bought the car I now use. It was a mostly loaded model from the year before that the owner had traded in for the newer model. I'm very happy with it now, it handles well, the audio system is great, it also has some additional safety features which is rather nice.

But the real answer outside of the poll, save all of my money for as long as it takes and get car B with all of the extras that I want.
But see, say your "Car B" in question costs $25,000, and fully loaded it costs $33,000.

By the time you save up the $33,000 you have to ask yourself the same question all over again. Do you get that car plus the extras, or a better car that costs $33,000 at its most basic?
I would pick a car then save for it. Not have money then decide on the car.

I don't really want a car (haven't even bothered to get a license] but on that poll I'd go for the cheaper car if it was also the cheapest to drive. Cars are just another expense I can do without.

Whichever rates better on performance and safety features and gives me more value for my money. Car safety is high on my priority list while selecting a good car.
