Getting to the point? They were there a year or two back now. Heck, Infinity Ward didn't want to make another shooter but they obeyed their evil overlord Activision and made Modern Warfare.

It would be fun to play in 50 years a Call of Duty 60: White Ops or something just to see how graphics and story have changed from the "originals"(CoD2, CoD4, MW2 and so on)

Freeing the series from the constraints of modern technology would have been an interesting step, letting Infinity Ward's creative people come up with imaginative future weaponry like gas grenades that make people run faster than Usain Bolt when held in your hand and flesh eating jam.
When they stop making money by people not buying them. As long as people are buying the games, they'll keep making them. Nintendo is the perfect example. As is the Final Fantasy series. If the masses want it, the market will cater for it. We few who think it is becoming stale and dry are not large enough to effect their business decisions.

I can bet quite a lot of money that I can as soon as a list of characters is released for Black Ops, predict what will become of each character during the course of the game (Captain Price of course, will make a glorious return, speak in a rather outdated British accent and NOT DIE).
I can also pretty much guarantee that the "Enemy" will either be some Middle-Eastern Oil Baron or Russia again.
I wanna see the ending of Modern Warfare's Story, thus I wanna see #3. I wouldn't mind seeing some more Treyarch made entries into the series as long as they use settings other than WW1, WW2, or Modern Day. I like the Vietnam/Cold War Setting that Black ops will have. I would also like to see the Modern Warfare games blend together with the other games. I heard a rumor that Captain Price from MW will be in Black Ops, which would be cool to connect the games like that.
Have MW3 and give it a respectable send off and tie up the plot ends. Maybe have the Rangers in Moscow and the SAS in stealth missions attempting to evade capture by the remnants of Shepherds soldiers and then hunting down Makarov. But for the love of god DONT kill everyone off (especially not Price just becasue he has outlived his usefulness) and DONT bring back Ghost or have a 'Son of Shepherd'.
And keep spec ops.
And take Multiplayer back to COD4. Only 4 groups and less killstreaks. Nothing makes you want to quit a game more than joining one midway and looking up at the sky to see pave-lows, harriers, chopper gunners and spawning each time in the path of predator missiles.
