If they keep bringing the games to new eras, then I see a bright future ahead. What we don't need however is another world war two game or a game set in the present.

I honestly don't care. CoD is dead for me after CoD 4 (so I voted Now! because there wasn't a better option).

I objected when they moved backwards from CoD4 into CoD5. After finally dragging themselves out of WW2, for a brief, glorious moment of sunshine, they just dived right back in! WTF?? Aren't there enough WW2 shooters already? There's nothing new, they just put prettier pictures and more gimmicks in! They even have zombie-Nazi's now... although that was pretty cool, admittedly.

And then MW2 came along. And it wasn't even CoD anymore. It was Quake wearing a CoD skin. And a poorly done Quake at that. At that point, I didn't even buy the game. I just gave up on CoD completely.

So anybody that WANTS to keep humping Activision's leg, can go right ahead. It's no skin off my nose. They're entitled to whatever enjoyment they can get from the franchise. I've just lost my taste for it completely.

I voted now. MW2 was good for a while (way too long a while for me) but soon I realized that it sucked completely and that the next CoD games were headed in that direction.

So I stopped playing them.

Now. If nothing else, I just want my cousin and all of his 13 year old friends to stop thinking about it. I should get them hooked on TF2 or something.

It should end whenever Activision feels like it. If they want Black Ops to be the last game in the series, so be it. If they want the last game to be Call of Duty 75: Modern Warfare 60: Galaxy at War, that's fine. It's not like them ending or continuing the series has any real effect on me.

When people stop buying CoD games???

And you never know when they'll come out with a diamond in the rough that everyone will love...

Never.

When I grow old, I want to have something to laugh at. What better object could that be than a franchise more dying than I am.
you do not know how right u r

It seems that there probally isn't even going to be a MW3 but after I see little more of black ops i'll decide if it needs more

When should the CoD series end?

Wouldn't a better way to phrase it have been: When should it HAVE ended?

I think it should have ended after Call of Duty 4. World at War wasn't bad, but it was a pretty insignificant addition to the series. World at War was just a darker and edgier take on things we've all seen before. I just can't find anything to respect about MW2, video gaming would be better off if it had never been made as far as I'm concerned.

But that's my ideal, in reality there is no end in sight. It's only a matter of time before a subscription-based Modern Warfare MMOFPS comes along. Cash cow gotta be milked!

Now, but only because there's no option for about 3 games ago. They really should have stopped before Modern Warfare in my opinion.

After Modern Warfare 3 - they need to give the series a proper ending and then leave it alone. I was disappointed with the decision to 'resurrect' supposedly dead characters from the last game, but now they have they should have them walk off into the sunset or die for good.

When they stop making money by people not buying them. As long as people are buying the games, they'll keep making them. Nintendo is the perfect example. As is the Final Fantasy series. If the masses want it, the market will cater for it. We few who think it is becoming stale and dry are not large enough to effect their business decisions.
I'm not asking what Activision will do, we all know that already. I want to know what you personally would do if you had the option.

Oh...

I would have stopped at the second game, only because WWII games have never been good. World At War was the only WWII game I actually liked. But the MW series....all of two games, was pretty good. And it was great to use some guns that didn't run out of ammo every ten shots. Or sound incredibly pathetic. Or not be the M82. I actually liked the MW games, although I felt the plot midway through MW2 decided to go in such an illogical direction, it had be confused even the second play through. All of a sudden, we're going after some guy who simply wanted credit, and getting help from a terrorist? The fuck!?

I didn't realise you could have usernames that long...
OT: I think after Black Ops. But maybe they should finish the Modern Warfare series with a trilogy.

People hate too much on MW2, it was a very good game on its own merits, the only bad points I can see about it is some aspects in multiplayer which allow people to fustrate others (Danger Close, One Man Army etc.). If Black Ops is the same apart from those aspects and have different weapons, better story, then it will be better than COD4. COD4 was a great game and it is hard for any game to live up to it, much like how many of the Mario games didn't compare to Mario Bros. 3. I get stressed at MW2 for some aspects of it and of course it isn't as well done as COD4, but it is a better game than many on the market and introduced interesting concepts like customisable killstreaks and final killcams (which I love). In no way am I a MW2 fanboy, I can just see it for what it is and don't rely on the majority of people to convey my opinion. It's a good game.

OT (finally): The series should end when the ideas begin to be poor in the way of setting an story.
