I buy DVDs all the fucking time. I bought Fooly Cooly on blu-ray just last saturday.

Nothing beats buying and holding a physical copy of a movie in your hands. And nothing beats rearranging your shelves trying to make everything fit after you've bought another batch.

I can't really remember the last time I bought an album, but that's more to do with me not being interested in any current music. Not enough to buy it anyway.

I buy CDs, DVDs and physical copies of games all the time (6 last week, and 4 so far this week). But I hear what you're saying OP, as all of those were bought from online retailers. The last time I went into an HMV or similar? Jeez, must be two years ago or more.

About two or three weeks ago, I went out and bought Manticore and Other Horrors which is the latest Cradle of Filth CD and, Deathalbum III. To be fair, those were the first 2 CDs I bought since Dark Venus Aversera or whatever the Hell Cradle's last studio album was. Also, this was the last time I bought music in general since I don't download music anyway. I don't remember the last movie I bought though but I generally buy physical media exclusively.

I always buy physical copies of all my media. It just makes more sense to m because I will always have it and I like to support the things I enjoy. I know if I created a movie or game or something it would be devastating if everyone just downloaded it without paying a dime and I was left to live out on the streets despite my hard work.

Definitely within the last few months. I don't buy many films in general as there are very few I enjoy enough to want to watch more than once, but I buy almost all of my music in physical format.

Digital Downloads are so much better!

i hate downloading music, and quite simply unless the artist has posted a song for free or something i dont download, ive never payed for a downloaded song, i do however have quite the large cd collection
I think there's been a bit of mis-reading the title. The OP is asking when was the last time you bought a physical copy of something through a high-street shop (vs online retailers like Amazon).

OT: I'm honestly not sure. Couple of years ago? I'm a complete Amazon addict (especially when it comes to DVDs). There's a booming 2nd-hand market on there which means I can stock up on films for less than the price of a pizza.

I do not buy films often, but I will always buy physical copies, the same goes for television shows.

With music it varies. I tend to download more often than I buy them now simply as it's quicker (plus most of the music I like I'd have to order online anyway). I only tend to buy physical copies if I am asking for it for a present, or if I happen to come across it in a shop and feel like buying it.

The last physical album I bought was Living Things by Linkin Park. I only did that because it just so happened to be in the sale that HMV was doing at the time. Despite this, I'm big into streaming a'la Spotify, and I usually download from iTunes or Google Play if I want to purchase.

I buy physical DVD's all the time, as I usually just rip them and copy them to my NAS drive. I'll also put them in formats friendly to my mobile devices. Being able to have a digital backup like that without the DRM BS you get with an actual digital download is priceless. Also, you have a physical copy of the film.

I bought an album only last week, get what you give, by the ghost inside. I tend to buy albums from the hardcore punk and metalcore bands that I like, mainly to show support for them. For other bands of different genre though other methods of procurement are used.

I tend to buy CD's from a shop less and less now that HMV has become one of the only places left to buy music, and their prices are often vastly inflated. The last album I bought though was Witchcraft- Legend back in September. I make a point of buying CD's for all the new releases I'm interested in. CD collections are cool, plus FLAC downloads are hard to find, and I appreciate nice packaging. I barely ever buy films though, mainly cause I tend to watch them once, and hardly ever rewatch, whereas an album will be listened to over and over.

I am beginning to prefer digital copies of things. It is just easier, and most of my music goes on my Ipod/laptop anyway. Less physical copies, means less clutter and less objects to dust.

Now I haven't stopped buying physical movies yet, but that is because I haven't signed up for Netflixs yet....yet. I think buying a physical movie is more important to me then a physical album.

This might be because I was used to downloading music a lot in my youth off of things like Limewire. R.I.P
The problem with doing it that way is the sound quality is always worse off of things like Rhapsody or Amazon/itunes what have you...... If you buy a physical copy and then rip it and load it on that way there is a noticeable difference in regards to the quality.
I didn't actually know that, thanks I'll look into it. iTunes is somewhat of a new thing to me, I just got my first iPod this year, so most of my music is ripped from CD's. I wasn't aware there was a noticable difference, so now I won't make the jump to digital so fast. I like my music of the utmost quality.

Digital download might be easier, but I like to buy something tangible. Something I can put in my case, something I can collect and display. A digital collection (like my Steam library) doesn't have the same impact.

The exception would be mobile apps and (obscure) indie games.

Huh, strange. I can't think of a single occasion where I've ever bought an album/film in real life. I've received physical copies as gifts, but I've never bought one myself.

Still buy Movies in DVD or Blu-Ray format. Games I tend to buy digitally through Steam or similar services. With the exception of finding it cheaper from Amazon or something. Haven't bought a CD in so long, usually digital download or a service like Last.FM.

Hate having game boxes lying around, still got some of my older PC titles, they were decent cardboard boxes with quality artwork, so its nice to display in my office. But console/PC DVD cases are bland and take up space.

Don't care for something physical, never understood peoples reason for saying that.

I hav never bought a digital copy of a CD or a film and I cant remember the last time I bought a physical copy of a CD but it was probably back in 2001 I think thinking about it (yeah dont listen to much music) as for films I have almost certainly bought one this year I used to buy them all the time but I am running out of space now so have slowed down I cant remember what it was though.

I have bought a physical copy of a game 2 weeks ago SF X Tekken for 10 pounds which is 5 pounds less than the DLC characters package (which I wont be buying along with any other DLC for it). Generally I prefer physical copies I like tangible stuff and downloading games and films takes forever with my broadband seriously I could go to a store buy it complete it/ watch it for less time and money than it takes me to download in most cases and as for renting digital copies er no thanks.

Not to be rude, but using Itunes or Amazon doesn't get the artists less money. I get that you are taking an antipiracy stance, but there are nonpiracy options that don't require going out to a store.

OT: You know, I wouldn't even know where to go buy a CD in my home town. If I wanted to buy a physical copy of music, I'd order it online or burn it myself which defeats your purpose of keeping music stores in business.

That said, I always buy a physical version of movies locally. Its just easier to manage a DvD compared to a digital copy and there are some pretty good used DvD stores around me.

It's been a long time since I actually bought a CD, but I buy movies all the time. Just last week, I found a copy of "The Sixth Sense" in a $5 bargain bin at Wal-Mart, and bought it (Bruce Willis is great in that movie).

I bought the first Evangellion movie on Blu-Ray two days ago.
I have a policy of 'acquiring' media, such as anime, and then paying for it at a subsequent date when the opportunity arises, often because it's not available in my country at the time of said 'acquiring'. I think it's important for someone like me, living in the UK, to actually buy anime or niche video-games in order to show the respective powers-at-be that there's actually a market for that stuff here, it's more of a symbolic gesture than a particular desire to possess a physical copy.
I don't think it's as necessary with mainstream films or music, however, although I'd still be inclined to do it. Probably.

EDIT: Oh, well, I guess they'd still get the money if I did it through online retailers. So this was about online versus retail as opposed to physical copies versus not-bothering? I don't think I read the question fully...

...sorry.

In a bid to make this post more relevant I'll add that, though I did buy the Evangellion Movie in person, I seldom buy stuff in physical retail outlets as opposed to online simply because online is less expensive.
