I got the childhood stuff for measles, polio and whooping cough. The yearly flu shot I can't quite get behind unless you are part of that demographic that is really vulnerable to it. They seem to miss the mark on it a lot and it often does not seem to work.

It's hard for me to find anything that resembles a reason for any of the childhood ones to not be done though. Polio in particular was an utterly terrifying thing for anyone who lived during the pre vaccine period.

I think I am behind on my tetanus boosters. I don't know the cooldown period on that shit but I think it's fairly well past for me.

There's a bit of a difference between the flu vaccine and the immunisation schedule most countries have for children.

Most people by adulthood are immune to a large number of previously potentially deadly diseases such as polio, measles, whooping cough etc. Because of vaccines.
actually not really. Vaccines are not permanently effective. Technically speaking, you need to get boosters for most of them every 8-10 years if you want to keep your immunity. This is actually a point of great concern for some diseases because it has resulted in a large and growing portion of the public with no immunity to these diseases. Most of which are worse if you contract them as an adult.
It really depends on the vaccine. You need a booster for tetanus if you're exposed and havent had one for 10years and whooping cough has a booster in the 50-60s for most countries. Flu vaccine is new every year. Hep B immunity is something you can lose too.

However with a lot like HPV, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Polio, Rotavirus, Pneuomococcal, Meningococcal Group C etc once you've done the required amount you're immune for life.

Still vaccines are awesome. Have saved more lives than any other medical intervention.
MMR also requires boosters, as does Pneuomococcal. HPV and Meningococcal C are too new to tell, but most likely will later be determined to need boosters(which is what happend to MMR and Pneuomo). Polio also requires a booster, but because it's been eradicated in the US for decades they only require it if you travel, particularly to Isreal, Gaza, and the West Bank. Rotavirus probably would require boosters, but it's a disease that isn't dangerous in adults so they don't require one. Hep C has shown itself to be effective after 10 years, and so may be one of the few that don't require boosters.

And Yes, vaccines are a good thing, but most of them are not permanently effective without boosters. All vaccines are initially marketed as being permanent, and almost all of them eventually turn out to be not permanent. This doesn't mean they aren't a good thing, just that the adult population needs to be more aware of boosters if we want to maintain an immune population.

I already got my shots a few months ago... Both the flu shot and, what I call, the "sex shot"... I always get them every year as well as any other shots I needed to get updated on...

I'm that punctual on that shit...

Don't remember my last vaccination but I'm pretty sure I'm on schedule. It's a general shot every 6 years right?

I think the last time I was vaccinated was when I was getting a checkup for my passport, which was well over a year ago now. I think I'm due for a tetanus shot the next time I go to the doctor's.

I get vaccinated for the flu every year because of my occupation.

The most recently *interesting* vaccination was probably typhoid to travel. I suppose I also got my tetanus booster at the same time.

I did also recently have a blood titre drawn to confirm my immunizations are still up-to-date. All of them were golden, except for varicella (Chicken-pox), which is the one disease I actually had. It wasn't low enough to need a booster, but I suspect it'll be borderline within a few years.

Least a decade since that's how long I've been living on my own. Not even sure how one would go about that. If I need a Tetanus shot, I know I can go to my gp, but that hasn't come up since I was a dumbass kid playing in unsafe, rundown buildings.

As for the flu shot, I always get told I shouldn't apply for that since I have a good immune system and there are plenty of people who don't and actually need the shot. Flu vaccine shortages end up in the news here every year, so I feel like I should leave those for the people with poor health; my brother being one of them due to his missing spleen.

I cannot really remember when I had my last one, it was during school. I remembet that they were not too sure if I was allowed to have it or not as I was born with a hole in my heart. So they were not sure the effect it would have on me. They swore I could take it and be fine. However shortly after getting the injection I was very ill and weak and had to be taken home. I do not really remember much of what happened after that, think I judt ended up asleep. A few days later I was told I should not have had it.

My mom was one of the stupid anti-vac morons.
Her brother got infertile and deaf on one side from getting Mumps. Still she wouldn't have had me vaccinated and believed I should just suffer through the diseases.

Happy to say that the day I got 18 I went to a better doctor and got every vaccination he could offer me. Well he did a titer thingy and then decided by those which ones I needed. And I was extremely fortunate to survive the Measels without serious side effects.

To this day I refuse to have contact with anyone who doesn't vaccinate their kids. Especially considering just how irresponsible it is to other peoples kids who are still too young to be vaccinated. Seriously you can ruin a life by proxy if you aren't vaccinated. You can ruin a newborns life by letting un-vaccinated people in your house hours before the newborn enters.

I've received all the mandatory child-age vaccines up until 18 years old when I missed them. I'm 24 now and I've consulted the local nurse about any vaccines I'd need, her answer "Oh it's enough if you get those every 10 years or so as an adult and you don't want to get those too often."

What 'anti-vaccine' flurry?
Perhaps it should be 'anti-vaccine flurry', there was quite a large amount of vocal media attention leveled at people who opt out of vaccinations for various reasons lately with the measles outbreak traced back to Disney that basically boiled down to 'anyone who questions vaccinations for any reason is a raving lunatic'. The media created 'anti-vaccine flurry'. The OPV-AIDS theory sounds pretty outlandish on the surface, along with the Vaccine-Autism theory so I'd have thought it would have been drug up as well.

So pretty much it was a media construct rather than an actual popular opinion thing.

I am in the Military... I have vaccinations often for things before I go away. Everything from Hep B to Meningitis to Cyanide. (At least I remember it being cyanide... I may be wrong though, but it was definitely something specific that you don't get in normal hospitals.)

Also, I was definitely inoculated as a child. I remember it being pretty damn mandatory, and quite right too!

I get the annual flu-vaccination offered to the public. I haven't had a bad case of the flu in a good number of years so I'd say it works considering how often I take public transport these days.

Not a single anti vax idiot? Wow. This thread may end up setting the record for longest escapist thread to remain un-derailed.

Anyway, to answer the OP, the last time I got vaccinated was before a holiday a few years ago. I can't remember what for. Pretty sure I had malaria jab around that time too.
