Lost my copy to a friend who moved and vanished from the Earth.

I'm still playing VI, to this very day.

I will never get enough of Kefkas laughter.

Played FFVIII last summer to vent stress about the billions of people staying in my flat - really worked! I still have an attachment to that game that I can't imagine losing. I acknowledge its faults, but I still adore it because the good things far rule out these faults.

Other than that, I've played it through twice before. I didn't play it when it first came out (I was, alas, only 8, and I had no playstation *sniff*) but those two times have been in the last 6 or 7 years.

Here's what started this poll:

Growing up, I never played Final Fantasy... ever. However, my friends have discussions/arguments/slap-fights over the Final Fantasy series on a weekly basis. Each one favors a different FF title from the 1990's.

Yesterday, I asked them: When was the last time you played your favorite Final Fantasy?

These were their answers (ordered in the series's succession):
VI- 14 years ago
VII- 11 years ago
VIII - 8 years ago

Each one claims that their favorite Final Fantasy is their favorite video game of all time. We're in our mid-20s now, so I asked them to go back and play their old favorites again, just to see how they stack up to recent games we've played.

I'm expecting they remember these games being better than they are in actuality. Especially since they tend to be more critical of recent games we play (such as Mass Effect, Modern Warfare 2, The Force Unleashed).
I think it's pretty weak to claim a game is your favourite game of all time if you haven't played it in over 8 years. That screams weaksauce...

My favourite game of all time is Jedi Outcast, a game no one plays anymore really, and I still play it at least a dozen times a year.

Even Final Fantasy VII, which isn't my favourite game of all time by a longshot, I still play once a year because I love the gameplay and story.

I'm pretty hesitant to call something my favourite if it doesn't stand the test of replay value. If it's only fun the first time or 2 through and then I never touch it again it obviously is missing something to put it up on that pedastal.

Completed 7 which is my favourite yet again last week and currently playing 6. I completed them all in ascending order ready for the release of 13 and now I'm going backwards.

You know, I don't want to contribute to FF7 hate, but I want to ask something honestly:

For those who say it has aged well, what is it that makes you feel that way? Personally, I couldn't get myself to play through even the introduction less than two years after playing it through the first time. I really thought it aged badly. (And there was a time I quite enjoyed it.)
well im not a graphics whore in any way, the only way you could consider me in that category is in that i love 3D games over 2D games thats why it has aged well with me, the materia system also is my favorite, i love it, the story is pretty decent and i have figured out more and more about it each time i play, plus i dont care if its overdone, i love the characters in ff7 (not just cloud sephiroth and vincent, ALL of them..besides cait sith, that was an odd character...the dice thing was cool tho)

Ah... I haven't been able to play anything on PS2 since partway through last year, we're getting at about six, seven months now.

I still play Final Fantasy every summer despite it not being my favorite game in the franchise. I do it more for the challenge of trying to finish it with different party combos... and because I really like the Sea Shrine.

I don't think any of the older FF's have aged particularly well.

Random battles make me want to rip my hair out.

Hmmm...I think it was either a month ago or 3 days ago.
I'm still undecided on whether I like FF X or FF XIII more. Decisions, decisions...

I played Final Fantasy 7 about 2 months ago and have been wanting to go back to it. Final Fantasy 9 I played about 4 or 5 months ago. I played it constantly through again but when I hit the last disk I just stopped caring as much. I've already beaten it twice, which could be the reason.

As much fun as I had the first time, I tried playing it again in an emulator more recently, and I kind of have to agree with you. Not nearly as bad as playing Pokemon Blue again (sweet Jebus is it unplayable compared to newer games, despite the original generation still being my favorite set of pokemon), but it's astoundingly ugly and a bit wonky about some stuff that's been cleaned up/streamlined over the years since then. I could get over the ugliness fine if a few other things were fixed up a bit, but it doesn't help that the beginning of the game isn't particularly fun (for FF7 or Pokemon). See also: my failed attempt at going back to the original Fallout last year

That said, 6 is my favorite, and I kind of think it aged a bit better. In general, 2D games from the SNES and later hold up better than the NES and earlier, and a lot of 3D games from the PS1/N64 have aged miserably compared to the subsequent generations' games. Anyway, I have no idea when I late played it all the way through, but it was several years ago. I tried to get the fan retranslation of it working on my Dingoo a month or two ago, but something about the ROM hack doesn't agree with the emulator, so I may need to stick a newer version on there. Soon, too, because I think I've run out of other stuff to play on it after I finish Picross...
