The only thing that could ever kill WOW, would be WOW 2.
I would agree with that, but why would they make WoW 2 if they can just keep expanding it? They'd lose people by forcing them to restart on a new game, unless free transfers are available.

WoW won't die, they only reason they ever lost players is because china banned it. They still have 10 million.

Cataclysm is appealing to everyone since it does give everyone even the level 1 guys something. Other than with BC or WOTLK where only max level people got the love. So 12 million people will be hard to get rid of with there addiction to this game.

As much as I hate the topic here, it should happen. World of Warcraft has been going on for more than 5 years, has the graphics and engine of the previous generation's systems, and other than fueling Blizzard with embarrassing amounts of cocaine money, has no real purpose in gaming anymore.

It was a fun romp through the beautiful forests, and interesting terrain when I played, but was considerably better when 60 was the cap, still fun, but slightly tedious when 70 was the cap, and now feels like it's moving into Sonic and Mario land with WOTLK and Cata. Wow really needs to die.

Not that we should remove blizzard's massive money erection, but maybe they should make a sequel, with a better engine, or maybe they should take starcraft into MMO land, or maybe they should do something else other than spend 90% of their funds on making this game shine. Warcraft 3 and WOW are all they've done over the past decade and it wasn't until a year or two ago that they said "Oh by the way! We're also probably maybe working on trying to begin to start a possible sequel to Diablo2 and Starcraft possibly maybe..."

So, when do you think will Blizzard sever the line between themselves and WOW? Will it still be going in a decade, or do you (like me) feel that the new expansions and patches are needless polishes on a game that's worn down and old?
I'm praying it dies real soon, so the rest of the world can realize the folly of their ways just in time to go and overpopulate the servers of Diablo III when it's released. It's going to suck if everyone's playing WoW and no-one plays DIII >.<

Well I would have to agree with what you said about how it is bad that they invest most of their money into WoW. I don't think they care at all about the other games.
My personal experience with this was sending an E-mail concerning a hacker on Diablo 2. The response was a link to a help page for WoW characters.

OK. Everquest is still running. And that game came out in 1999.

WoW will be around even longer than EQ. So i can see it going until 2020. It will eventually become a much much smaller community though.

I doubt it'll die, and certainly not while people still want to play it. An upgrade might happen as well, although I think that seems somewhat unlikely.

Ah well.

When they raise the level cap to 100 and simplify the game so much there's just one attack that everyone has. it causes 1 damage and has a 1 second cooldown. everyone will have 100 armor, 100 health and 100 mana.

WoW is an extremely popular mmorpg. It will last for ages, decades maybe.
People still play Diablo 1 online and even PSO v1.

"As much as I hate the topic here, it should happen. World of Warcraft has been going on for more than 5 years, has the graphics and engine of the previous generation's systems, and other than fueling Blizzard with embarrassing amounts of cocaine money, has no real purpose in gaming anymore."

No real purpose in gaming? As opposed to the million of push-button-sequence games out there like Rock Band and Guitar Hero? No offense to either but this game has made (is still making) a greater stride towards national connectivity and social networking that any other game could even dream of achieving. I would MUCH rather "fuel Blizzard with embarrazzing amounts of cocaine money" for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS of new content rather then "fuel Activision with embarrazzing amounts of cocaine money" for minutes of new content.

As for the "previous generation graphics", did you ever think that its the only set of graphics that everyone can handle on there PC's without having to go out and buy this amazing ass computer to play it on? I can think of 10 games off the top of my head that people needed nice computers for just to even render the graphics. They are simply making it an easier interface for everyone while maintaining a beautiful environment. If that sounds unfair than I apologize for everyone here who cant got out and buy the next generation of graphics rendering just because we have something called bills and families.

"It was a fun romp through the beautiful forests, and interesting terrain when I played, but was considerably better when 60 was the cap, still fun, but slightly tedious when 70 was the cap, and now feels like it's moving into Sonic and Mario land with WOTLK and Cata. Wow really needs to die."

So you credit it and then remove that credit by giving no reason for it needing to die other than you feel like it's moving into Sonic and Mario land. The problem with Sonic and Mario being bad was the content, not the direction. Any Mario and Sonic game could have been sooo much better if it was made with more care. As much care as they put into WoW.

"Not that we should remove blizzard's massive money erection, but maybe they should make a sequel, with a better engine, or maybe they should take starcraft into MMO land, or maybe they should do something else other than spend 90% of their funds on making this game shine."

What you're saying here is end the original WoW, slap all of its players in the face and make them start over in a sequel? Rediculous. That's the reason for all of the expansions! They dont want the players do to do all of this shit and then lose an entire community by just saying "LOLZ we gotz ta upgrade the graf on dis. start over.". No.

90% of there funds?
Tell that to Starcraft 2.
Tell that to Diablo 3.
They're even merging accounts with battle.net because of Starcraft 2's online play.
Starcraft 1 servers are still up! people still play it because of user map settings!
Now, when SC2 comes out (if it has user map settings), there will be soooo much more
online play.
There is no need for them to "make this game shine". It sparkles just fine.

"Warcraft 3 and WOW are all they've done over the past decade and it wasn't until a year or two ago that they said "Oh by the way! We're also probably maybe working on trying to begin to start a possible sequel to Diablo2 and Starcraft possibly maybe...""

So? It's better than making alot of horrible choices on rushing games to the market for
a quick buck and then having a community that you worked so hard on building hate you.
Look at all the damn star wars games there are.
Its the reason they stopped making Starcraft: Ghost.

"So, when do you think will Blizzard sever the line between themselves and WOW? Will it still be going in a decade, or do you (like me) feel that the new expansions and patches are needless polishes on a game that's worn down and old?"

Sever the line? Why would they do that?
They dont look at a game for its simple qualities like Next-gen graphics or
just some new gimmick that comes out. They look at WoW the entity of people that
it has become. This game will be around for as long as either (A) enough people play it or
(B) they can maintain the servers. Which, by my observation will be a long time.

Im under the impression that the topic creator plays alot of games that are for cheap thrills.
Console games more specifically. Im not putting them down, but there a difference in the Left 4 Dead community on PC than there is on Xbox 360.On PC it's all about content.

I'm thinking it'll end in the expansion after Cataclysm, if they are respectful to their own story line. I know there are a lot of people that disagree with me but they've done that for the most part. Fact is the number of established major antagonists are dwindling. At the present time about all that's left is Arthas, Azshara, Deathwing, Kil'Jaeden, and Sargeras. Three of those are accounted for and Kil'Jaeden is really only there as speculation since it's a bit vague if he actually died or not. That of course is just where it would end if they were respectful. There's always the option of beating every last drop of money out of it with no regard that the story has to end some time.

Well Blizzard stated that they're going to make a bigger and better MMORPG than WoW, so WoW will start it's downfall from there. After that, a few years or months.

Unless they release WoW2 (and why do that when they can just update the game?) it won't die. MMO games are self-propagating and self-perpetuating...kind of like a virus. =P I think WoW is just so ubiquitous that there will always be a community there, at least until the next big thing comes along to replace it, and, even then, I think it will last until the people who grew up with it stop playing.

From personal experience, I've seen that MMOs and MUDs don't really die. Even if there's only a few hundred people active in a MUD, it's enough to keep it going, and there are MMOs that have been around much longer than WoW which are still going strong.

I would be VERY surprised if WoW (or Blizzard's next MMO) was not up and running in 2015. I don't see an end in sight for it. It's still the best MMO on the market by a longshot, even if it isn't for everyone.
