I haven't cared terribly much for Yahtzee's opinion in quite some time. He's a bit like the roadside preacher, always with flaws to over-exaggerate or some insult to spew. If anything, I find he has a bit of a one-trick pony that hasn't changed in the plural of years he's been doing his thing. It's all pretty "Meh." to me at this point.
Answered with "Ah well, it'll be fun to see what he says." That is assuming I actually check it that week, or at all.
I look forward to it now. Once upon a time such things made me upset, but now I look at it as his pointing this out that did bug me or pointing things out I didn't catch before. For instance: I really, REALLY enjoyed Bioshock but I'm not going to go so far as to claim that there wasn't anything wrong with it (especially after Yahtzee was so kind as to break away from the praise and say "let's talk shittiness." We need people like that so that things that are genuine shit are not given undue praise, like say, the Twilight Saga...oh wait...DAMN IT!
Mostly I think it'll be a hoot to hear what he has to say. I've only been pissed off once because the review was so blatantly biased that it lacked humor.
I see it as when a good friend of yours insults another good friend. Laughs are had and life goes on. There may be a small occasion where the line is crossed, but a simple "whoa, too far" puts everything back on track. Yahtzee has never angered me.
Sometimes he points out some flaws that I never noticed or just chose to shrug off without myself noticing. It's also quite funny. I'm not all to concerned. He may give it a really bad review but as long as I enjoy the game I don't have and problems with what he says about them.
Well I'm not one to let one person's opinion colour my view of a game. Whether they're one of my friends or some strange Englishman on the internet.
But one thing you have to remember is that just like his great Forebarer Charlie Brooker before him. Yahtzee's going for laughs, as well as putting his opinions across like some sort of demented bastard editorial.
I notice that with games I own/like, he's generally spot-on with most major complaints. It's just when the gets really nitpicky is when I realize that sometimes he really tries to force every bit of juice from the entertainment fruit.
Now when he does something that I hate, I find myself agreeing to pretty much everything he says, hence why some of my favorites are the SSBB/Hate Mail and Webcomics videos.
I'll laugh and not think much of it; he's funny, but Yahtzee is not a serious reviewer by any means. For example, his Valkyria Chronicles review is funny because he's so angry, but I still consider it one of the best games on the PS3 (it was one of my primary motivations for getting one). His being factually inaccurate in that review (you have to pay for upgrades, you realize?) helps.
I've played many of the games he tore new assholes and actually enjoyed many of them so I've learned to take what he says with mountainous piles of salt and not depend on him as a credible source of anything other than criticism.
I just enjoy his videos as entertainment. If he hates a game I like I don't take it all that seriously. But then again, I liked Bioshock 2 so I guess I'm just thick.
I always watch them for their comedic value, and always take them with a few grains of salt, because often I can't play the game in question. In case of games I've played and liked, I take them with a, what was it called, a metric fuckton of salt!
So I guess the last option in the poll is the closest to my opinion
