In the wake of Nintendo's Wii, Sony's Move, Microsoft's Kinect and even the Iphone and Ipad, is this generation going in the wrong direction? With so many outlets for Motion Controls in gaming, many developers have found their places in families homes, and workplaces like never before.

Is this a good thing for our Gaming Generation?

I don't like them for gaming. I work all day, outside, doing excavation. I come home and play video games to relax. And I don't see how waving your arms around and jumping around is relaxing.

As I've said many times before, I'll probably stop gaming altogether if this motion control thing proves to be more than just a passing fad. It didn't work in the 90's when the Power Glove hit, and, for the most part, it doesn't work now. Gaming just isn't a medium that lends itself well to the concept of motion control.

Your poll options are terribly biased, not really worth voting.

I think motion controls can work, but they're definitely still in early development. With time, I think motion controls will become more precise and usable than controllers or mouse/keyboard. Of course by then nuerocontrollers will be hitting the market and we'll have to go through this whole mess again.

I am curious, which do you refer to? The Wii? Yes. Kinect, and Move? We have to wait and see.

The same stance I have on 3D.

I fucking hate it and until they perfect the technology, it should just go away

How would you word it, so it is unbiased?

I am shocked seeing that I took 3 Journalism classes in High School.

This is my first poll though.

I think, for once, Yahtzee was right about something. His article on motion controls sums up what I think pretty well.

Every form of motion control. I want to have to move as little as humanly possible when playing games. Also, many of the movements that you need to perform in more complex shooters and RPGs can't be easily replicated using motion control.

It's funny, if most of you dont want motion controls, there must be more like you guys that dont want them, then WHY do they crank these things out?

It's probably that there is an even bigger market for them so they make money, so this has to be a money thing right?

You didn't have any option that actually treats motion controls seriously. There's nowhere on your poll for my opinion that motion controls are the future. People will learn to use them, just like they did analog sticks, and will eventually reach obsolescence like arcade games.

The closest positive ones either express some form of doubt, or that motion controls are limited to casual family gaming. You need to include at least one option that supports motion controls as the way forward in earnest.

You do have a point, how would want to play FF7 on move?

I hate to agree with Yahtzee for the ten billionth time, but motion controls are just not immersive. In some cases, I think they can be fun, like for a simple rail shooter or Red Steel 2, but for a truly immersive gaming experience, motion controls aren't what the industry needs.

Where do I stand?

I love them. Nintendo does the controls pretty well, and since Sony and Microsoft are getting into the area, I think they'll get even better in the future.

But there are so many different angles in this argument that just can't be represented in a poll, there will always have someone that is not represented. But you are correct, I should have at least had a "Motion Gaming is the future" option, but you have to take in to account that somewhere there is someone who thinks motion controls are limited to casual family gaming. And this is why polls are not my preferred form of communication in forums.

It needs time. We have to see what's going to happen next.

It's like we've given the artists a different kind of paint to make their next painting. It's not what anyone's used to, but the artists, for the most part, seem enthusiastic to try their hand. Let's let them work.

As Yahtzee once said, you need to experiment. Sure, sometimes it'll blow up in your face, but at least you tried something new. I don't think we can fault the industry for at least trying. And say it does suck, but wouldn't it just suck more if the reason it all failed was because we wouldn't give it a fair chance?
