As many know, the three most recent Elder Scrolls games have all primarily taken place within a single region of the world of Tamriel.

I have no working knowledge of the previous two games, so I have no idea what areas they were set in.

However, given all you know of this fictional world, what province would you want the next ES game (if there is one) to be set? And why?

Out of the three games I've played, while I love and adore the sights of Skyrim and think it's beautiful I always found myself in more awe and wonder of the shivering isles in Oblivion than anywhere else (to a lesser extend the giant mushroom trees/giant bug creatures in morrowind) and where ever the next game is set I'd like a portion of the map to be slightly more abstract and out of this world. So, following from that I'd quite like to see the Summerset Isles as I think they'd have a good chance of having something more exotic and otherworldly. Or alternatively some desert/arid areas wouldn't be amiss and would give the game a distinct look compared to the previous titles.

Essentially let the artists try and come up with at least a small area of the map which is more fantastical and I'd bet it's the area most people fall in love with.

I would suspect a Valenwood game would be next.

The Thalmor placed their capital in Valenwood, and with Skyrim's massive hint dropping of another Great War, I could see the Valenwood game being a game about The Empire invading The Aldmeri Dominion.

The Elves have no chance of winning, but I would love to see them epically fail.

Elseweyr! It's all about kitties! Nyannyanyanyanyan~

In all seriousness though, I'd like a game where I could help the Empire kick Thalmor ass in a second Great War. Screw limiting it to one region. Start in Cyrodiil and press on all the way to the Summerset Isle!

They can't make someone as dickish as the Thalmor and then not have us beat the smugness out of them. It's going to be Valenwood but I'd like a Summerset Isle since all that's ever been said about that place is "It's really pretty".

It shouldn't be set in Tamriel at all IMO. I want a TES game set in Akavir!

If not, then in Morrowind. The ENTIRE Morrowind. Not just the island of Vvanderfell.

I'd love to see how they'd portray Elsweyr. It's got a neat name if nothing else.

It'd be mostly large deserts and steaming rainforests by the coast, of course, but they managed to squeeze the most out of "Snow. Maybe peaks", didn't they?

I'm scared of the next Elder Scrolls. Skyrim did hint that they may be willing to make a world that is slightly different and interesting and not so cliche that it doesn't even occur to them to flesh it out. But if they set a game in Elsweyr only to drop another Oblivion on us I will be... displeased.

I would like to see a Blackmarsh game. I think the story-telling there could be great. We haven't seen a lot of the Argonian lifestyle, at least not lately. What does an Argonian city look like? An Argonian fortress? What is their social, caste, or political structure? Surely it would just take too much effort to make that in a way that is cliche and not properly fleshed out. So there is a lot to examine, explain, fill in, and build on. The Argonian occupation of Morrowind presents an opportunity to introduce complicated political/cultural or even religious upheaval of the sort we haven't gotten enough of since Morrowind. I know we're all waiting for the next Great War, but getting Blackmarsh in on that action would be a good way to thicken the plot a little bit.

I hope they don't do High Rock or Hammerfel. Or if they do, I hope they make it interesting and fleshed out instead of taking the easy road and copy-pasting Tolkien or whatever.

The Aronians only control the southern most part of Morrowind, its really only a small fraction of the total landmass.

Using this map as reference, the Dunmer control everything from Mournhold up. The Argonians control like Narsis and Tear.

Also, the Argonians are controlled by the An-Xileel political party, a group of Argonians who receive orders directly fro The Hist, a race of sentient trees that have existed since the dawn of time, and who are the Argonian's creators.

Very interesting. Well, something is going on up there. I want to see how it has made life complicated for the Argonians. Hell, since that stuff didn't make into Morrowind, they have a perfect excuse to put it in Blackmarsh! Have I discovered hidden proof of their intentions??? =o. hehe.

Neat. It's about time they fleshed this out and used it as raw material to flesh out everything else. I want to see how this makes the Argonians unique and, again, how it is making life complicated in Blackmarsh.

Come on, Todd Howard. It's time to build a fantasy kingdom in a fumy swamp filled with lizard people whose architecture and culture suggests dark undertones. You know you want to! Extra points for a beast-like skeleton a la Morrowind.

Wait, that sounds like a concept for the MMO. I'm not sure how I feel about it. But I think they said the MMO would be set in a different time period, so I guess we're safe.

OT: I'd love to be among Argonians, so Black Marsh. But Valenwood sounds good, too. I'm torn.

According to lore from Skyrim, and the two Elder Scrolls books, the Argonians are doing literally nothing but sitting on the land. Much of it they don't even try to farm, or raise livestock, they just sit on it.

It really wouldn't make life complicated in Black Marsh, The Arognians always have devoutly worshiped the hist trees. Black Marsh is probably the most secure, and calm, place in Tamriel. Well besides the man-eating plants, but in terms of war and violence, its most likely has the least of it.

It remains outside the petty wars of man and mer.

As much as I would like a akavir game, there will never be one.

Bethesda has repeatability said that all other places on Nirn are insignificant compared to Tamriel, its even written in the lore.

That is actually why the Akaviri have tried to invade several times, because they know Tamriel is the only place on Nirn that matters.

Tamriel is the place were Lorkhan was unmade, were Akatosh chose to descend in his metal tower, and Tamriel is the place were the final battle between Lorkhan and the Elven gods will take place.

Akavir only exists to give a place for others to be so they can try, and fail, to invade Tamriel.

Goddamn you are a buzzkill lol.

So how about they start using the land or in some way it becomes relevant. So how about their beliefs come under threat or lead to clashes with other cultures or internal division. I know those stories haven't been written yet. That's what I'm calling for.

Yes, yes I am.

Well, according to lore, The Hist once held a great empire that was mostly sunken during the dawn wars between spirits, it is possible the Hist may plan to like... attack Man and Mer as some sort of revenge 5,000 years after the fact, or something.

I've always wanted to see Summerset Isle. Valenwood and High Rock would be pretty cool as well I suppose. Elsweyr could be interesting, but I don't think it could hold a whole game. Not enough variation.

High Rock. The more mages, the more it will be outlandish like House Telvanni, hopefully.

Thank you for meeting me half way lol. That's something I could get behind. That plot sounds a little like Morrowind. But what I'd really like to see is a plot where the stakes are something besides some kind of apocalypse scenario. Apocalypse scenarios are fine but they are overdone and lend themselves to lazy writing. I usually cite Morrowind as a game that uses an apocalypse setup without falling into that trap.

Actually High Rock is more "game of thrones" political assassination, then House Televani wizardy.

What stakes are really large enough to matter to the 10 races besides end of the world scenarios?
