For the most part, I think it be a bad thing.

MOST of the newbies are just awful, but the ones that can behave themselves and not be a complete moron, I have no problem with.

Yes, I am a bit of an Elitist.
SUE ME.

Not if I can't help it

On topic* I'm fine with them if they don't recreate a second march madness. (In the sense of a big wave of fanboys, trolls and bad posters. Not the actual event).

i think that it's a good sign for escapist. if a lot of people are joining it's getting more popular each day. and don't we all just love that:)

EDIT: i'm sorry for the edit but i just came up with a reason to hate noobs on the escapist (not all of them) a lot of noobs are people that just want to explore and try to be a part of something, but then, you have the other noobs. the ass hole extremeist noobs that think that they are more perfect than jesus and use all the fucking useles computer slang like leet and pwn. They break the rules and are never ready for the consequences. (usally saying stuff like "WTF! I ONLY POSTED WITHOUT WATCHING THE VIDEO WHILE SLEEPING WITH RUSSES WIFE (sarcasm) AND MAKING NAKED WOMEN OUT OF EVERY KEY ON THE BOARD! GOD THIS IS BULL SHIT"

Starting from when do you consider someone a newbie?
1-100 post.
...Really? You base "newbness" on post count? Thats a terrible way to go about it.
Agreed, I would think you'd base it more on the date they joined which very conveniently stated with every one of their posts.
If anything, I'd base it on actually just reading their posts. If their viewpoint is valid, if it makes sense, if they are actually typing somewhat coherently and so on. Basing it on the date that they joined, or the amount of posts seems....childish.
How is basing it on the date they joined childish? If they joined Dec. 8th 2009 and today is Dec. 9th 2009, obviously they just joined yesterday. Now any assumptions you make regarding that may or may not be childish however.
Saying someone is a "newb" is childish in and of itself. Unless you literally mean that they are new to the site.

You really have no clue how long they've been here. They may very well be lurkers prior to the arbitrary joining date. As one person has posted in here already, they've been on the site for months, but an article last week got them to actually register an account here. Is that person a newbie due to their joining date? I think not.
You don't need to tell me that. I was one such lurker before I joined. Besides, I'm not calling anyone anything. I'm just saying that obviously if they just joined yesterday, that would make the a 'new' member, wouldn't it? And as I already said, any assumptions you make regarding that may or may not be childish.

Great, it gives me the God complex of being here longer than them and having more posts with correct grammar.

OT: Just kidding, but I think it's great, new members are always good, as long as they follow the guidelines.

We were all newbies once, if they act like trolls, then they will be dealt with like trolls.

Until they do something stupid, consider them one of us and embrace them.

But I swear to god, if they make MW2 threads I'm going to kill them. Kill them all.

Here's my list of people who MUST help.

Furburt
Shewolf
Max The reaper.
Idealist commy
Neonbob
simulord
Eatmorebabies
the Soviet connection
And Wicky 42.

We will SQUASH the newbies, if they break the rules and make non stop repeat threads! :<

To arms my bretheren! :D
Hilarious how you forgot to enlist the help of our very own Spanish Inquisition.
I think Max and Neonbob will just do whatever the hell they want actually. I love those two crazy, funny bastards. :)

TW- I have no problem with noobs as long as they bring something to the party and follow the house rules.

Well were going to have to be on troll alert for awhile but when we stop the trolls this could be a good thing for the escapest.

I like the sense of familiarity when you see the same people but other than that, more members is always good.

YES! I am not the only one that noticed! Anyway, a random influx of people can only be good since it means more money for the escapist and better forums for us. However, their topics haven't been up to par with what I have seen in the past. A lot of them are just poll questions that serve nobody but the OP and don't spark a discussion.

Oh no, new people, that is terrible. I hate change and everything about it, must destroy anyone who ever came new to something and wanted to join in.

Oh, hang on, I was newbie once, I will be again, and I realise that if a community has any chance of succesful growth leading to inevitable stagnation then new members must be welcomed otherwise all you get is a fast track to stagnation.

To be honest, I'm only hanging around the forums here so much lately because The Black Library [http://www.blacklibrary.com/] (the publishing arm of Games Workshop (makers of Warhammer/40K) took their forums offline while they've been building a new website. Otherwise my posting would be far more sporadic.

Hey, I've been doing this for a month now, technically I'm not a newbie! YAY!!

But seriously, we've all been newbies upon everything, just need to keep at it so that we are no longer newbies.
