There are a lot of interesting places the series could go; I'd like the future, with the stipulation that you have a portal gun. But Shogun-era Japan would also be awesome.

I don't see how it's gonna end if the third game isn't about Desmond McBland, so I picked the future simply out of a desire for closure. Also I reckon it should turn out that they've invented laser knives so that the hidden blade can be all blue and glowy.

I really don't care, as long as they don't set it somewhere like absurd (like Japan for instance) and hide behind the "it's his ancestor" gimmick.

Agreed on the Victorian setting. As interesting as that setting may be, though, the easy availability of guns does present a few balancing issues. Still, the image of one of Desmond's ancestors diving from a Zeppelin on a bungee cord with a knife in his mouth is hard to forgot.

Actually, going back to that WWI bit, what if it was Desmond's ancestor that did in Archduke Franz Ferdinand?

Edit: Never mind, I'm putting my vote behind the French Revolution. The Bastille and the Notre Dam cathedral are too good locations to pass up.

The Mayan/Aztec era.

Now, I know, Desmond probably doesn't have ancestors from there. But what about Subject 16, the guy in the Truth videos? Maybe he'll be the next protagonist.

Still, the idea of a hidden snake comes to me.

It should take place in the near future/Desmond era. At the end you find out someone else is controlling Desmond through the Animus even farther into the future!
Mind. FUCKED.

I was thinking that victorian England would be quite good. There could be a part where you have to hunt down Jack the Ripper, because he is killing all the courtesans (the assassin's allies). I think that would be quite interesting.

Either:

Victorian England
Seems like the most natural progression. It's been mentioned before, so just read the above posts.

Cold War Russia and America
Either the CIA, KGB or even both are under Templar control (they never do specify exactly WHEN Abstergo takes over the whole world...), and you are planted amongs the ranks to remove their influence, acting as a double agent at parts as an excuse to go to the other country. But all you really do is delay the inevitable...

Before and during the French Revolution, during the American Revolution (Novus Ordo Seclorum), or prior to the first World War (I don't think many games are set during that time.
