AoE2, my all time favorite game

It was also the first game I ever played as a 6 year old,so it has a special place in my heat.

That sounded very geeky.

I choose 3, simply because I love blowing up buildings and ships with cannons and watching bits fly off them.

I forgot about that. Yeah, I don't usually care that much about advanced graphics, but watching the buildings take realistic damage is pretty damn cool.

I need to reinstall that game...

age of mythology was actualy not an age of empires game, it was made by the same company yes but it doesnt count >.> that being said AoE2 age of kings and the conquerers expansion was the best of the series, it went down hill after that
Sure it counts. It was made by the same company, and originally had the title Age of Empires 3: Age of Mythology.
saying age of mythology counts, is like counting halo wars as well
It was never "Age of Empires: Halo Wars".
Two completely different franchises. The difference between AoE and AoM is basically the setting, it's still the same game at its core.

However, I still hold Rise of Nations as a good alternative to the AoE series.

I only ever played 3 as I wasn't much of a RTS player in my youth. (Fast FPSs only)
But since ive widened my gaming options AoE3 is one of my most played games.
Having recently messed about with old games from other series I liked, im going to see if I enjoy AoE2 as much.

I personally prefer aoe2, aoe1 had the problem of not being able to Q enough units to build at once, so you had to expend more energy going back repeatedly
Worse, you could not queue unit production at all, until the Rome expansion pack came out. Every other RTS released around that time could do this.
I do own AoE1, but I never considered it more than a mediocre RTS because of this and other backward features.

I'd have to vote AoE2, my opinion based only on the demo. AoE2 didn't appear to be quite so bad, back when it was released.

AoE2 is by far the best because it was historicly acuret (you have no idea just how many people dont know who williem wallice is until you say the guy from bravehart(mel gibson and his crappy accent ruind that movie)and the game is where I learned about him at the tender age of 7 or something like that) and it has the best veriety of civilizations with thier own units that are thier own special units and it has a supierior campaine.

please excuse my spelling errors

AoE 1 & 2 are really great games, but I voted for AoE 3, the Asian dynasties expansion is a must for me however, love to play as the japanese with their ninjas.

AoE 2 because it's better than the first (though the first was still kick-ass). I haven't yet played AoE 3 or AoM...

I prefer AoE 3 but since I have only played a small part of it and have not gotten a full impression I'm going with AoE2

The second one. You see, game developers? THIS is how you make a map editor! Don't give me any of that confusing polygon bullshit! As for the time period it covers, I find the battles featured in the game to be interesting. Overall it is what you'd call a "good game".
