I haven?t voted because if you say you find either group irritating, you?re confessing to being a ?hater?. As ?gamegod25? so eloquently exemplifies:

There?s no problem with people liking one game or console over another, or just hating everything for that matter; things only start getting shitty when these ridiculous labels are applied to generalised impressions. We see this in ?Valiance?s? post:

The problem is that fanboys ARE haters. Ever meet a PS3 fanboy? 80% of the time they're 360 haters. And likewise for the 360. Ever meet a PC, 360, OR PS3 fanboy? They're all fucking Wii haters. Ever find a Wii fanboy? They shun everyone who even owns a 360 or PS3 because OBVIOUSLY the ONLY people who would own a 360 is a FPS-fanboy, and all PS3-owners HAVE to love MGS and hate those 'casual' kiddie games.
I know exactly what you mean; I?ve heard evidence of these sorts of groups, and have myself created such generalisations, if not just for humour?s sake. However, in reality, the instances of me actually witnessing such extreme views are far outweighed by the numerous human adults, who can appreciate differences in opinion for the minor discrepancies that they are.
Of course people do exist who are like this; I have witnessed, on many occasions, people who will not stand down from their hostile prejudices, but from what I?ve seen these aren?t what you call the stereotypical ?Halo fanboy?, they are what you people on The Escapist call ?normal? ? people who are all to quick to denounce others who lack your elitist impression of themselves and of course the plethora of well educated, balanced gaming experience that you all have. Indeed, the very word ?fanboy? is a clear attempt at undermining the person who has been labelled such: the condescending addition of the noun ?boy?, which alludes to a juvenile cognation in the individual, onto what is often a perfectly valid use of the label ?fan?, only serves to vindicate the labeller through their obscure self-righteous terminology. Of course, the irony is that those that use the socio-syncratic neologism ?fanboy? (I wouldn?t call it a real word) are using it in the context of a media that is its self childish, or at least un-adult-like in the first place.
I do play video games recreationally ? I own an Xbox, feel that Halo is generally overrated, GTA4 is underrated and cannot wait for Red Faction 3 ? a game that appears to have drifted under the radar, despite it appearing to be possibly one of the best games this year.
