If this has been done before sorry but I did check and nothing showed up so here we go. If you had to give up one of your five senses which one would it be? I personally would give up smell because I'd find living without the others weird and my sense of smell isn't that great anyway. So what about you guys?

Also, because I doubt many people which choose either of these, would you prefer to keep your sight or hearing? I'd keep my hearing, living in a silent world would be creepy.

EDIT: Some people have noted that losing smell pretty much means losing taste too so for the sake of this thread let's say that you won't lose taste if you choose smell.

I'd give up smell, too. It's not nearly as vital as the others, especially with humans.

And I'd keep my sight. I couldn't bear being blind. But, y'know, I'd also choose to have my sight improved. 'cos at the moment it's quite crappy.

Taste. I don't like the taste of much stuff, the blander the better. Everything bland means I don't have to be picky anymore.

If I had to choose to get rid of sight or hearing, I'd choose hearing. I think it'd just be more practical to be able to see where I'm going, since table corners don't make a very loud sound.

EDIT:
Scratch all this and lose my sight if I'm allowed to be the next Daredevil.

From what I remember in school, taste is reliant on smell. If you lose your sense of smell, your sense of taste is almost completely diminished. That being said, I'd drop taste. It would help me eat healthier because I could stomach things I don't normally like that are good for me.

Hearing.

I'm just not a very audio-oriented person. Of course, losing your hearing would be really bad, but the others would simply be a bit worse for me. I thoroughly enjoy smells and tastes and making food is an important part of my life -- I don't think I'd be able to cope with losing them.

The lesser of the five evils would have to be losing smell. I could live without smell and I think it would be easiest one to forget about.

Edit: And if I had to choose between hearing and sight I would keep sight because if I'm going to program video games someday I'm gonna need to be able to see.

I'd lose touch, I don't even know what it does!

I'm not losing my beloved food or music and obviously not sight so touch it was.
EDIT:I choose smell because of the change which shouldn't have been made in my opinion.

I can live without smell. Not being able to see would pretty much warrant a suicide on my part because everything I love to do requires sight.

After that comes touch, since a lot of things I like to do needs touch (like fine manipulation with your hands).

third most needed sense would be hearing. (there's a lot of music that I'd like to be able to hear)

fourth: taste (the taste of good food, whisky and good cigars are not something I'd like to lose)

and fifth: smell.

So by being the least important sense on my list, smell goes first of my five senses. The other four are senses I want to keep.

My sense of smell is already pretty crappy so I'll kick that one to the curb. The other four will compensate and I will be fighting crime in no time because THE NOSE, KNOWS!!!

wait no...I will be giving up my sense of smell so...THE NEGA-NOSE, KNOWS!!!

Saved it!

As for sight/sound I'd give up my hearing. I am too fond of gaming to give my sight up.

I would want to give up my voice over these options. Because thats not on the list. I choose taste. People say lose smell so they lose taste. Why lose two senses when they only need to lose one.

I also read losing touch is a big lose. You can cause damage to your self and not know it. Next thing you know it's infected and your in real trouble. And sex will suck.

I say smell, but since taste and smell overlap some, this is more tough than I thought.

You're not going to be 'tasting' that food the way you think you are.

Remarkable how so many seem to gloss over the importance of smell in their lives; it's pervasive throughout everything.

That said, I'm a congenital anosmic; so I suppose I'd go with smell, as I never had it to lose in the first place. If I were forced to compound that with something else as well? Eugh...that's something I'd not like to think about. Taste or touch maybe.

Honestly? Whichever. I don't actually care.
None of them would be a big fucking deal for me. There is no part of my life they would affect particularily badly.

Actually probably taste, just so I could eat healthier and not have cravings. However I would miss taste, and if not having smell did not affect taste, then I would give up smell.

Taste or smell. At least that way I'd have absolutely no reason not to go down on girls.

Totally sincere, by the way.
