Neither. They're both just large publishers. Neither is actively stopping anything from coming out, forcing you to play things you don't want to play or kicking your puppy.
EA has destroyed many companys with awsome games coming soon out wich to me is outrageous and sometimes excuses for why they did it have been completly stupid.

Well, EA overall release (as in publish) pretty good games, Activision mostly just release new Call of Duty Games so out of the two my vote goes to Activision.

However, if you had added EA Sports to the poll they probably would have got my vote as they release a new version of all their sport titles every year while basically changing nothing, then again you seldom hear fans of these games complain about those updates so they obviously don't mind they aren't exactly hurting the industry...

So yea, Activision...

I'd have to say EA since, as far as I know, no other company has a strangle hold on one specific game genre simply because no one else can use that license.

EA has an exclusive license with the NFL so only they can make football games with the NFL licensing. No one else has THAT kind of a stranglehold on an entire genre. Nothing kills innovation like being the only person who can do something, it'd be like if only Apple could make smartphones.
That's as much the NFL's fault as EA's. And it's hard to blame EA. From a gaming perspective, sure it sucks, but from a business perspective it's brilliant.

The entity who is causing the most harm to gaming nowadays is gamers themselves. They are accepting abusive game practices and abysmal titles. Thus, they empower a greedy, barren industry.

Both of these posts are excellently well said. I believe that part of the blame also falls upon the reviewers. All of whom should be praising unique gameplay ideas and risks, and not giving 10/10 to the same bland re-hashes. (Moreso if they don't give anything new to their respected Genre, or present any interesting gameplay concepts.)

Brink, is one game that actually was interesting after I played it. Why did it get shit reviews? Too much of an emphasis on teamwork? Spiral Knights was harped on for it's lack of graphics. Fuck, it's a grindy co-op MMO created in Java! Have you done anything but not look past that label?

If this is something we're going to jump on, we all need to work together, Publishers, Studios, Reviewers, Players, and for the love of fuck, QA testers too. (I'm looking at you, RAGE)

EA destoyed Westwood. That's a real loss.
Also Origin R.I.P.

Bioware also used to be a little better, under Atari.
NWN OC was crap, but the amount of free support Bioware gave afterwards is a very rare thing for a game company. Improvements to the editor, extra content like tilesets and horseriding and cloaks. Plus some free modules to play. All when the game was long wasting away in the bargain bins.

Every publisher is messing with online DRM nowadays, but it was again EA that did the kick off with Spore and ME1.
Even so, if EA make a good product in the future, I may still buy it, because ultimately it's all about how much a product is worth to you.

When bad shit sells, the problem is gamers.

Here we go...

Bioware. (Through EA)

Why you ask would I suggest such a great company?
Their quality is declining, leaving the fanbase of normally hardcore gamers wallowing in a puddle of pathetic storywriting and casual gaming concepts.

Naughty Dog. They are harming the industry with lack of awesome games. They really need to buy back Crash's license. I mean, did you see what they did to Tiny?!

EA.

The grey, repetetive tat that gets pumped out every year by activision (and all of the people trying to copy them) is just a phase, and eventually people will get bored and move on. There are always trends, and they always pass.

Dodgey marketing practices however, do not pass. If there is money to be had, and nothing to stop it being had, you can bet your ass that it will be had.

EA by a longshot. Because of their reliance on marketing, and the way they do it.

All of the above.

The only innovation I'm seeing at the moment is from Indie games - and some of them as bad as the AAA-mongers.

Neither, I'd like good reasons as to how either of them are ruining the industry. If you all would be so kind.

I voted other. I meant both. They're both big and evil, but in their own special ways. At least they aren't doing the DRM shit that Ubisoft is.

Blizzard. Where did it go so wrong? Starcraft 1, Diablo 2, Warcraft 1-3, even World of Warcraft where all good. Starcraft 2 was almost perfect but dropped the ball with lack of LAN. But WTF is wrong with Diablo 3? Its a nightmare! It looks like a watered-down WoW. Always on drm? REAL MONEY auction house? This is a tragedy.

Buy Torchlight 2 when it comes out, its made by the REAL devs of Diablo 2, the game you want D3 to be like (its not going to be im sorry)

I originally voted for Activision (they basically killed Guitar Hero with their meddling) but after thinking about it, I'm going to say neither. EA and Activision have brought so many new fans and dollars to the gaming industry that we no longer hear about the eeeeeevils of gaming like we did around a decade ago. Yes, both companies' popular franchises may be a detriment to seeing more variety in the top sellers' list, but killing gaming? Nope. The only ones that should be blamed for your gripes are the consumers that continue to eat all of this up, it only shows the companies that they want even more, MORE.

Probably EA.

Activision are at least restricting their meddling to just a few major series.
True, though I'm still going to wait on the reviews for MW3 PC edition in case they decide to pull a RAGE on me.

Unquestionably EA. Activision have already 'won', if you like - they have Call of Duty which they can pretty much sit on and do nothing to, and it will print them hundreds of millions of dollars each year. They're good at making money, to the point where they've found their golden goose with very little damage done.

EA, on the other hand, have the same goal of finding a mega-franchise to copypaste each year for massive bucks, but fucking suck at achieving it. Their comprehension of how to make a successful game extends no further than 'copy CoD', which doesn't even work particularly well because there are a limited number of very specific reasons why CoD is so successful, and just copying mechanics, themes, etc across at random has a very low chance of success. Additionally, the market for 'pseudo-realistic multiplayer FPS' has already been pretty much cornered, and EA would be much better off finding another avenue to go down.

But no, apparently everyone who works there cannot look deeper than pure sales numbers. And so EA will be left to pick up, ruin and subsequently abandon game after game until they either stumble onto something successful or run out of money.

Activision is responsible a fleeting trend and an equally fleeting backlash that's still produced plenty of good games.

EA makes good games, but the shit they pull for the sake of marketing is hurting everybody in the long run and, even putting the consequences aside, fucking disgusting on its own merits.

There's a reason I don't have a single EA published game in my library, you know... well, actually, there's a shit load of reasons... so, my answer?

That aside, in all honesty, I don't think that either of them are doing the evolution of gaming much good... (just as well I'm a fanboy for nostalgia, for all that makes no sense...)
