Is the poll supposed to be for the best console or the one that improved gaming the most?

Not only do I not consider those 2 things synonymous but I'd argue they're almost mutually opposed, since the consoles that did the most advancing were also the ones testing new waters and thus making more mistakes, while the best consoles were the ones that came about later after the problems were ironed out.

The best console in my opinion is the 4th or SNES era, since it was the first example of the technology no longer being a hindrance of any kind to the creativity of the developers. More classic game franchises started in that era than any other I can think of.

The generation that did the most to improve gaming was probably the 5th Generation, since it brought about the 3D era which changed games forever.

Objectively, probably the NES era as it did help bring life back to gaming after the big crash. Every other generation after that I feel just served to increase the gamer population.

My personal favorite generation is probably the 6th. Most of my favorite games came from that era. Shadow of the Colossus, MGS3, the Ratchet and Clank series, ect.
Totally agree about the Third Gen being the most important.

Personally loved the Fifth Gen most though.

You should listen to Turok : Dinosaur Hunter's OST. Brings back a lot of memories.

I don't think there is a best generation. For me it's like a house, the first gen was the foundation and every gen after that built on top of it.

That is until the PS3 and 360 hit, the roof got dry rot and termites. Micro-transactions, day one patches, on disk content being put behind a pay wall ... and what pisses me off most (which is actually really trivial) is the social aspect to gaming. Every fucking game has to have a social aspect, each system wants you to give a fuck about what your friends are doing and try to beat them.

God, I hate this social crap that is crowbared into games.
Eh. I'm sure that there are plenty of places where social can be well implemented. After all, video games should be allowed to be experienced with friends and loved ones, just like books and movies should. Plus, they can lead to a well implemented drive to improve. I can honestly say I wouldn't have cared nearly as much about getting high scores on half the mobile games I have if it weren't for the chance to defeat my friends.

As for your other complaints... yeah, I can definitely say I understand that anger, even if they aren't problems I myself face (i rarely play home consoles these days)

Ill go with the NES. Seriously, when you compare games on the Atari 2600 (which I owned and loved) to stuff like Mario or Zelda, it is like night and day. I am not just talking graphics, but general complexity of the game and the amount of imagination that went into development.
