I'm just curious as to what the majority of Fullmetal Alchemist fans liked better. Cause I have to say for myself that I liked both all lot but there were somethings in both I preferred. I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil anything but both had amazing plots and great story telling. So I can't really say I liked one better that the other.

Problem already. You didn't specify whether you mean first anime or Brotherhood[footnote]Though I think I know what you mean...[/footnote].

I have to say the manga as it had better handled its characters and I could read at my own pace, though that's a personal preference. I felt the first anime and Brotherhood was a little off in the pacing department, but I'm more of a manga reader. But the deal-breaker here was the story. The manga's story just was better executed than the first anime. No further statements

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood > Manga > The First Anime

Watching the first anime was a colossal disappointment after reading the manga, which I loved. Then I watched Brotherhood and it was amazing.

Manga > Brotherhood > Brotherhood Movie > FMA > Other stuff > FMA Movie

In my opinion, the only part of FMA is stronger than Brotherhood, is in the beginning of the series. Though, I can't wholly fault Brotherhood for not trying to reinvent the wheel. Brotherhood basically gave the Cliff's Notes version and only remade episodes when they needed to remove the importance FMA had retconned onto some characters (ie. Shou Tucker).

Brotherhood.
Haven't read the manga so no opinion there and the original anime just seemed a bit iffy.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the first anime.

I haven't actually watched Brotherhood yet, unfortunately.

A lot of people seem to think that. I love the original Anime, though it could be because that was the first I saw. And I was 12.

Hmm, I haven't read the manga (gee, look at the special snowlake I am) so I can't really answer. But I do like the two animes. If I was forced to choose one of them, I'd go with Brotherhood, but otherwise I like them roughly equally.

I have to say I'm more of a fan of the manga, I can't really place why, most likely since I haven't watched the 2003 anime in quite a long time. The 2003 version almost seemed a bit lazy in comparison to the story in the manga. Sorry to anyone who disagrees, that's just what I think.

Happy Christmas in advance!

Manga, but if Brotherhood is as close to the manga as I've heard it is and is well done, then it might go over the Manga
but so far, the manga :)

The original was basically playing with half the deck and the things they did add(red water, homunculi origins etc),where very creative and made the show really enjoyable. It made the it more the brother's story than Hohenheim's story. Though the ended is pretty weak and I've heard the movie doesn't do much better.

Brotherhood and the manga(I've only read a couple of vouches so, I'm winging it based off Brotherhood) have a much larger scope and feels like Elrics are more a lynch pin in the bigger plan of Hohenheim's.Which is not really a bad thing as it adds to the wider scope they have.

The point I'm trudging towards is that both have there strong points and are both classics of the genre.

In FMA's defence, they adapted it while Arakawa was still only about two thirds of the way through the manga (or less, I think) and they overtook her so needed to come up with an original story. She actually approved of it when it came out (though whether that was for PR reasons or not, I don't know). Still, I thought they made a fair fist of it (a lot better than most fillers), though it ended flatly and dear lord the film was crap (mediocre idea, shit execution as you say).

Still, the first part (which follows the manga almost to the letter) was pretty damned good, and the reason I didn't take to Brotherhood for several episodes was the change in the voice cast. Shinichiro Miki as Mustang just didn't feel right to me, likewise Fumiko Orikasa, Megumi Takamoto, Kaori Nazuka etc. etc. I was just relieved that Keiji Fujiwara and Kenji Utsumi retained their roles.

So... based on sheer thrills of the second half, Brotherhood, for acting FMA (first anime) and for the story as a whole, the manga. Screw all the films (though I haven't seen the FMA:B movie)... -_-
