I preferred Fallout 3 more then New Vegas because the story were more solid instead of just "Help a faction to win a war in the end of this sandbox game".

Also there weren't really that much "Veags" over it so I was also disappointed from what I had seen of the trailer and the actually engagement in Vegas as a place.

Fallout 3 was a game I played through because I found the world and story engaging, where New Vegas were merely engaging in the world and a sandbox game without actually story but just a lot of quests!

I had fun with both games but... New Vegas really felt hollow playing it.

i much prefer NV. everything is better, but the one main problem i have with FO3 is the lack of ironsight aiming. i just cant get fully immersed into the the whole role playing bit when my geezer decides his idea of aiming is to poke hs gun a little bit further forward and try to guess where he's shooting at NV obviously solves this.

also i dont like the concept of a sandbox rpg where your role playing consists of 'do nice things for the BoS because we told you too, and no, you cant go and be friends with the other equally armoured load of chaps (enclave) you also had no idea existed until you left the vault 5 minutes ago and who are seemingly broadcasting a message on the radio saying "were nice" because your not allowed, because we say so'

Meh. I like New Vegas better. Both have stupid stories that aren't important but New Vegas has more interesting things to do. It also improves upon the mechanics in a number of places (hooray for finding a use for otherwise pointless junk). After patching the initial bugs, I found the game to be just as stable or more stable then Fallout 3. Its still bugged up the ass but that's to be expected in a game with this much junk that can wind up interacting in odd ways. The unstable engine also rears its ugly head all to often. (Not expecting Gamebryo to crash ever 15 seconds is a recipe for failure).

I feel a lot of the criticism leveled at Fallout 3 is done so on the basis of it being a poor Fallout game, usually based on the Main Quest line and the much more bleak and hopeless atmosphere.
No, it wasn't bleak and hopeless, it was ridiculous and stupid. -That- is the problem. Purifying water isn't difficult, and it's certainly not something you break a terraforming-miracle-machine to do.

Fallout 3 is the best game I have ever played so it wins by default. New Vegas is still great, but it does not have the brilliance of Fallout 3.

fallout 3.

New vegas felt sort of shallow by comparrison, there was more there but it felt less rich.

But in both cases i'm sick of bethesda(obsidian whatever) thinking because a games open you don't need a good core narative, well then don't put it there in the first place and spend more time on the other stuff.

As a Fallout game, NV is much better. As a shooter, FO3 is better. Both have qualities and defaults, and I like them both.
