I prefer local multiplayer, personally, since I like playing against my friends, especially the ones who think they're fantastic because they can beat some random person online, but then lose when they play me.

Local because it's friendly, online because the players have some skill, local because they don't use the exact same tactics every time.

Local, trash talk and reminiscing about your awesome kill only works really well when you know the people next to you

You really should have put none as an answer, even though I have PSN Online I rarely play it. Normaly I play just strait up singleplayer. But I would rather lpay online since I only have 1 controller, so there is no local playing with me.

Local multiplayer is better. One reason is that it's harder for someone to quit when they're playing local... Yesterday when I was playing online; someone quit in every match. Every single match...
Damn, man. That outright sucks. Freaking gamequitters.

Offline/Local. Although it rarely comes about, when me and three friends gather around a 360, it leads to some fun times. Hearing them all yell as the last kill is taken, with comments about funny things that happened afterwards. In fact, some of my funniest quotes come from me playing with my friends.

....Bancakes and Pacon.

Edit: And the splitscreen sort of thing doesn't do much, for we usually play it on either my 40" TV or my friends 50". And we're like three feet away said screen.
Bancakes sound like something that the mods would serve for breakfast.

Kazaa for big screen TV's!

I find both of them are good in their own way, local multiplayer is good for things like Guitar Hero while online is good for games like Call of Duty.

Local's better but Online is easier.

Also Online there's the element of surprise as one minute you owning and then the tables turn as a new guy joins server and you start ripping up your Red Dwarf posters.

I prefer local. Playing with my friends on SSBB and other games is quite possibly the most fun I've ever had.

My face always hurts by the end of night; from laughing so much.

Local. If they decide to be dicks about it, they're just an arm's length away from a smack in the head.

Plus, my connection is shoddy at best.

Unless one person is madly more superior to the other, local. The ability to crack jokes and to laugh together makes me feel closer to the person. Although, internet does bring moments of unexpected hilarity; like a Medic-rush taking over a team of Heavys and Pyros on TF2

Online, I never play Local. Simply because there's never anyone local playing whenever I try and play locally, and I'm not a big fan of split-screen (plus, my friends only play EA Sports games which I personally hate, and my brother isn't a big Gears or Halo fan). Online is much easier to get a game, and it's more fun too.
