Poll: Which final fantasy game should I play next? (6, 8, or 9)

Ok, I'm about midway through my second play through of final fantasy 7, and, to my surprise, it's just as awesome as I remembered it. I've got final fantasy fever now, and I want more, but I'm not sure which one to play first, so I'd love some help.

I intend to play this on my PSP (or possibly PS3), so we're limited to the games available for download as PS1 Classics. I don't have any other systems.

Just to tell you some of my preferences, I love 7, I remember liking 10, and I hated 13.

Also, I am not really leaning toward FF 6 because of the graphics. I really like all the hand-made, detailed 2.5d backgrounds in FF7. I'd like to see more of them, and I'm assuming that 6 isn't going to have that since it was originally for the SNES. But if you think 6 is so much better than 8 and 9 in story and game play that it can overcome the graphics, then you should go ahead and vote for it.

Edit: Christ now I see why everyone complains about the polls.

Edit 2: Despite what wikipedia says, it appears that FF 6 is not on the PSN. I'm derpalicious.

I loved 8 and 9, I played more of eight than nine so I am gonna say eight

Definitely play 6. I would like to bash 8 & 9 but I will just say that 6 is exemplary in it's story, character development (personalities and combat), and the music is extraordinary.

Final Fantasy 9 is my favorite.

I recommend it very highly.

Great story, good gameplay and lots of side quests to do.
And you're gonna love Vivi!

Well considering 6 is the universily aclaimed best final fantasy, you can't really go wrong with play that.

I liked 9 for its down to earth and less overly seriousness compared to 7 and 8. It felt more like a classic final fantasy game.

You can't go wrong with 4 either.

8 is more like 7 whereas 9 is completely different so I would go with 8.

Never played 6 or 8. So I can't say much about them. Although I have seen an LP of 8, and it does look good.

I did play and LOVED 9. I would highly recommend playing it.

I always said Final Fantasy VII marked the point when Square Enix was pretty much giving up, but really Final Fantasy 6 was very weak. But still... i'd definitely recommend it over any of the 3D titles.

6 can take some getting used to due to the graphics, you might want to hold off on it since you're still in the groove of the 3d graphics that 7 has to offer.

9 is my personal favorite from the PS1 era, although from the people I know, is more of a hit-or-miss kind of game.
I absolutely love it to death, and a few of my friends do too. But some others just can't get into it. Like they can't get past the art style and things like that and bring themselves to enjoy the game itself.

I liked 8, and I would definitely play it again, but I think it's the weakest of the PS1 era, and definitely has the most confusing story and least likeable characters.

My recommendation: 9. But as someone else said, 8 is a lot more like 7 whereas 9 is veeeery different.

I'd say that the first... oh, about 2/3 to 3/4 of FFVI is the best Final Fantasy Experience you can have. Your mileage may vary with the last portion of the game depending on how much you enjoy cruising around the world looking for sidequests that are only tangentially (at best) related to what you were supposed to be doing.

So yeah, take that as you will.

6 or 9 I'd say but then I never played 8 =P

Although seeing as you enjoyed 7 maybe you wouldn't like 9 (I love it btw), as I've noticed that people who love 7 usually despise 9 - just a personal observation, I may be wrong. Oh, and in regard to backgrounds I feel obligated to tell you that none of the background in 9 are copy-pasted - every tile on the roofs are individually drawn, et cetera - and it's beautiful. (<--slight bias? Never! =P)

6 is pretty awesome too, one of my favourite FF games and it has some of my favourite video game characters so far.

I got told recently by an ex of mine that I absolutely loved 8 beyond belief and it was my favourite game.

Unfortunately this is something I don't remember but on that basis that he is absolute 100% sure that it was 8, I'm going to go with 8 as my recommendation. It must have been pretty good.

They're all good. 9 is my personal favorite from that list. FF9 really is the definitive final fantasy game. 8 is unbalanced combatwise but has a good story and, with some glaring exceptions, good characters. It's probably the weakest of the three. 6 seems to be everyone's favorite and it really is good, made better by the fact that you can get a goddamn yeti.

VI... it was the absolute pinnacle of the series and was all downhill from there... progressively. (IX is an exception)
