Epic Games has confirmed two things that to me, foreshadow one of the original characters dying in Gears 3 (possibly early on too). They have confirmed that there will be 4 player co-op, and Anya will be one of those playable characters.
Gears has stuck with 4 characters playing with each other at a time throughout the first two games. With Anya becoming a playable character, to me, that seems like she will be replacing someone.
The question is, who is going to die?
Marcus-Not a chance, he is the main character of the game, if he would, it would be something to end the game.
Dom- Not likely either, the trailer revolved around him, his emotional story is going to drive Gears 3.
Anya- Extremely unlikely, as she has been confirmed to be a playable character.
Cole- A possibility. Cole is a fan favorite and would far and beyond be the biggest emotional toll on the player (manly tears anyone?).
Baird- Another likely candidate. He is the least liked by most fans (I personally think he's awesome) and does not have a huge personality.
Personally though, I really think it will be Cole. For one, like I said, it would be a huge emotional play and would make for some gripping cutscene(s). Baird and Cole are best friends and I think the story would play out better with Baird's suffering than Cole, because he shows at least a bit more emotion than him outside of Cole's never-ending enthusiasm. If Baird were to die, Cole would obviously be affected, which would definitely break down his character, but I think they want to avoid him becoming like a Tai character, more somber and down to earth. Cole won't change, and I think that is why he'll be making his exit (unfortunately) in Gears 3.
